💪94 percent yes vote with 95 percent turnout??? Those are some winning numbers!

“This overwhelming strike vote sends a message to McLaren that nurses remain strong, united, and determined to do what it takes to get a fair contract,” said McLaren Lapeer RN and bargaining team member Alisha Ferkowicz.

“McLaren’s anti-union behavior and their proposals at the table are unacceptable. They need to show they’re serious about supporting nurses and enabling us to provide the best care possible to our patients.”

After more than 9 months of bargaining, Alma MNA nurses have reached an agreement in principle with MyMichigan – averting a strike planned for next week.

MyMichigan moved off their “last, best and final” offer after the Alma nurses voted overwhelmingly last week to reject it and announced they would hold a second 3-day strike. The MNA state Board of Directors on Monday also authorized a new strike pay benefit that would support the Alma nurses.

“Our union strength and solidarity have resulted in MyMichigan investing more in nurses and making our hospital better able to attract and retain the skilled nurses our community needs,” said Shenan Shinabarger, RN, president of the local Michigan Nurses Association union at MyMichigan Alma and a member of the statewide MNA Board of Directors.

“We want to sincerely thank the countless community members who supported us in various ways throughout this fight for a fair contract. We believe this agreement is a win for nurses and for our community.”

McLaren Lapeer nurses sent a strong message Friday with their declaration of "no confidence" in CEO Tim Vargas signed by a supermajority of members.

The community deserves better than leadership that is overseeing a hospital in disrepair, anti-union actions that have put more duties on already overloaded nurses, and increasing patient safety concerns.

As they continue bargaining for a fair contract, McLaren Lapeer nurses won't give up advocating for what's right from a corporation that prioritizes profits over all.

Happy Labor Day! MNA members marched in the Detroit Labor Day parade, one of the oldest in the country, and in the 37th annual Negaunee parade. Today we celebrate all that workers and unions have accomplished and recommit ourselves to doing the collective work that makes the world better for all. #

“It’s sickening that McLaren continues to cut corners by depleting other departments and forcing nurses to pick up those tasks, taking nurses away from our efforts to provide skilled care to patients and keep them safe in the hospital,” said Lapeer RN Ashley Witmer, president of the MNA union at the hospital.

“We are standing up to the greedy McLaren executives who care more about increasing their profits than doing what’s right for our community.”

FEDERAL CHARGE FILED — Nurses at McLaren Lapeer Region have filed a federal unfair labor practice charge, alleging the hospital has added significant duties to their workloads.

The nurses at the Trinity Health hospital had to wait while the employer contested their election results, but they just got word from the National Labor Relations Board: It’s official!
