Big things are happening beneath downtown Ann Arbor.

Ric-Man Construction, Inc. is partnering with the The City Of Ann Arbor - Government on the High-Level Trunkline Capacity Improvements Project, adding about 1,600 feet of new 36-inch relief sanitary sewer to boost capacity during heavy flows and support the community's future growth.

With sections more than 30 feet underground, crews are using microtunneling, a trenchless method that installs pipe between access shafts instead of digging one long open trench. Below the street, crews are managing deep excavations, existing utilities, shifting ground conditions and precise line-and-grade requirements.

What happens beneath our streets keeps Michigan running.

In Lansing's Westside neighborhood, MITA member Leavitt & Starck is helping the city separate its combined sewer system. Crews are also replacing water mains, roads, curbs, and sidewalks at the same time to limit future disruption for residents.

The new pipes are built to last 50 to 100+ years, meaning fewer water main breaks, cleaner rivers, and less flooding for the next century.
