Happy World Migratory Bird Day!

As birds travel through Michigan on their fall migration, our forests, wetlands, shorelines, and other habitats provide important places to rest and refuel along the way.

This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observation Matters,” reminds us that every sighting can make a difference. Share your observations through eBird, support local monitoring efforts, and practice respectful birding practices in your community. The more we learn about the birds passing through Michigan, the better equipped we are to protect them.

Each fall, thousands of Sandhill Cranes gather at Michigan wetlands as they migrate south. You can experience this spectacular migration at Big Marsh Lake in Battle Creek on select weekends through early November, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Battle Creek.

Can’t make it to Battle Creek? Visit our Phyllis Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary near Jackson, where you can watch cranes arrive at the marsh around sunset.

Join Michigan Audubon's Winter of Wonder Book Club!

This free online book club is open to both members and non-members and will meet via Zoom at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, November through March. Our first meeting is November 9, and you can register for one session or join us for the entire season.
