One of the most important things caregivers can do is remember that dementia changes the brain, not the person.

When communication becomes difficult or behaviors change, try to focus on the feelings behind the words rather than the words themselves. Often, confusion, frustration, fear, or anxiety are driving what you're seeing.

Responding with patience, reassurance, and empathy can help create calmer moments for both you and your loved one.

You don't have to be perfect. You just have to keep showing up, and that matters more than you know.

Warmer weather can bring new opportunities for connection and activity, but it can also create challenges for individuals living with dementia.

As temperatures rise, pay close attention to hydration, sun exposure, and fatigue. Consider planning outdoor activities earlier in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.

A favorite walk, sitting outside with a cold drink, or simply enjoying a shady spot together can be wonderful ways to enjoy the season while staying comfortable and safe.

A shared laugh. A favorite song. Looking through old photographs together. Sitting quietly on the porch.

When memory becomes more difficult, relationships don't disappear. Connection can still happen through presence, patience, and love.

Today's reminder: don't underestimate the power of simply being there.
