On April 15, 1850, San Francisco was officially woven into history as a city. Over time, that same date found its way back into everyday life through three familiar numbers that carry the spirit of the Bay wherever you go: 415.

What started as coincidence has grown into a living reflection of place, people, and presence. Today we pause to honor that rhythm. The culture, the care, the creativity, and the community that continue to shape what the Bay has always been and is still becoming.

Today is a reminder of that connection. The culture, the movement, the people, and the energy that continue to shape the Bay every single day.

We are leaning into love, legacy, and living community with intention.

Compass & Keys and Pop-Up are honored to stand in partnership with West Oakland Mural Project ( on IG) for the 6th Annual Love the People Block Party. This gathering is rooted in care. Rooted in culture. Rooted in showing up for the people.

On February 14, West Oakland Mural Project will offer free clothing, face painting, food, fun house experiences, and more. From 12 to 4pm, our healing collective will provide acupuncture, herbal medicine offerings, and body work designed to nourish the whole person. Mind. Body. Spirit. Community.

Through Compass & Keys and Pop-Up, we curate intentional experiences that center wellness, creativity, and collective care. Our role in this collaboration is to help cultivate space where healing feels accessible, joy feels abundant, and community feels like home.

Happy Kwanzaa, community!
Today we begin a seven-day celebration of heritage, healing, and collective purpose.

Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga as a way to honor African cultural traditions and bring Black communities together in the spirit of unity and self-determination. It is a cultural celebration, not a religious one, and it centers the Nguzo Saba — seven principles that remind us who we are and what we’re building.

Here’s how each day grounds us:

🌱 Day 1 – Umoja (Unity):
To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, and nation. We build stronger when we build together.

🌿 Day 2 – Kujichagulia (Self-Determination):
To define ourselves, speak for ourselves, and create from our own truths. Our identity is ours to name and nurture.

🤝 Day 3 – Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility):
To solve problems together and show up for one another. Our healing is shared work.

💰 Day 4 – Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics):
To support and sustain our own businesses and share resources in a way that benefits all. Wealth belongs in community.

✨ Day 5 – Nia (Purpose):
To move through the world with intention and a vision greater than self. Purpose is where power and legacy meet.

🎨 Day 6 – Kuumba (Creativity):
To leave our communities more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited them. Creativity is both a tool and a responsibility.

🕯️ Day 7 – Imani (Faith):
To believe deeply in our people, our leaders, and the justice of our journey. Faith is what carries us through.
