AgeOptions is a nonprofit organization connecting older adults and their caregivers with resources and services.

Older adults, people with disabilities and those who care for them look to AgeOptions to identify resources and options that honor their goal of living their lives to the fullest. With a network of partner organizations, we ensure that older adults and people with disabilities in suburban Cook County maintain access to vital services such as in-home assistance and adult day services, nutrition and health care programs, as well as respite and other services for caregivers.

AgeOptions is proud to be one of just eight organizations nationwide selected by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Administration for Community Living, to expand evidence-based falls prevention programs across Illinois.

This $1.94 million grant over three years will help us strengthen two complementary approaches: the CDC’s STEADI initiative, which helps identify and address fall risks, and Stepping On, a community-based program that helps older adults improve strength and balance while addressing risks related to medications, vision, footwear, and home safety.

Through this initiative, AgeOptions aims to screen at least 8,419 people for fall risk and offer Stepping On to at least 1,960 older adults across Illinois.

Falls can have a significant impact on an older adult’s health, mobility, and independence. By connecting health care providers, community-based organizations, and older adults with proven prevention strategies, we can help more people live safely and confidently in their communities.

We are grateful to the Administration for Community Living for this investment and look forward to working with partners across Illinois to make falls prevention more accessible.

Ageism is one of the most widespread and socially accepted forms of prejudice, and it can affect us at any age. By age 3, children already recognize stereotypes about growing older, and those ideas follow us for a lifetime.

Today is Ageism Awareness Day, and we're joining American Society on Aging to share the facts that tell a truer story about aging:

Our outlook matters. Older adults with more positive views of their own aging live 7.5 years longer.

Everyone is aging, and our communities are growing more diverse. In 2024, 15.7 million U.S. adults age 60+ were members of racial and ethnic minority groups. That number is expected to reach 26.6 million by 2040.

Older adults keep contributing. In 2024, 11.64 million Americans age 65+ were in the labor force, and caregivers 65 and older are the most likely of any age group to provide care on a given day.

Last night, AgeOptions hosted our 22nd Annual Networking Reception, Celebrating Resiliency: Together We Thrive, and we are filled with gratitude.

Yesterday was about more than an evening together.

It was about coming together around the challenges facing older adults today, particularly food insecurity, and recognizing that no one organization can address these challenges alone. It was a reminder that when healthcare, philanthropy, community organizations, businesses, advocates, and individuals come together, we can create stronger pathways for older adults to remain healthy, connected, and independent in their communities.

Thank you to our panelists for helping us have an important and meaningful conversation about older adult food insecurity and the bold responses needed to address it.

We are also incredibly grateful to our sponsors, donors, partners, volunteers, Board members, Advisory Council members, staff, and every guest who showed up and invested in this mission. Together, we reached our fundraising goal for the evening!

That support will directly help fuel the programs, services, and advocacy that older adults and caregivers throughout suburban Cook County rely on.

This weekend, AgeOptions President and CEO Diane Slezak and board member Mary Coonda came out to support fellow AgeOptions board member Dr. Lisa L. Campbell, The Growth Motivator, Dr. Lisa L Campbell, at her event Women Evolving: Igniting Growth, Healing and Transformation.

The day centered on Dr. Campbell's Shed the Weight framework, a reminder that the emotional, mental and physical loads we carry can be named, reflected on and set down. It's a message that resonates with so many in our community, especially caregivers who give so much of themselves every day.
