As Illinois joins the basketball community in mourning the loss of Chicago Bulls legend and beloved broadcaster Stacey King, we're reminded of an important reality: a single fall can change a life forever.
Falls are not a normal part of aging, and many falls can be prevented. Falls remain a leading cause of injury among older adults, yet there are proven steps we can take to reduce risk and help people remain safe, independent, and active in their communities.
This serves as an important reminder that falls prevention is everyone's responsibility—from healthcare providers and caregivers to community organizations, family members, and older adults themselves.
If you or a loved one are concerned about fall risk, support is available:
✔ Contact your local Area Agency on Aging
✔ Reach out to your local senior center
✔ Talk with your healthcare provider about a fall risk screening
✔ Ask about evidence-based falls prevention programs in your community
Learn more about falls prevention resources and programs available in your community by contacting your local Area Agency on Aging or senior center.
Awareness can save lives. Together, we can help older adults stay safe, independent, and connected.
Rest in peace, Stacey King. Your legacy on and off the court will not be forgotten.
