We have had so many people reaching out asking what they can donate to the W.R.A.P. Center that we figured we would put together a list and share it with everyone!

What we really want to say is Thank You💙

Every time we post something about the W.R.A.P. Center, we see so many kind comments about how amazing the things happening here are. And we appreciate every one of them. But what we hope everyone can see is just how much our community is a part of all of it.

We might be the ones here every day, but we are certainly not doing this alone.

So thank you for the donations, the encouragement, and for continuing to think about the people who come through our doors. We are so grateful to be part of a community that shows up the way this one does. 💙

A huge thank you to the NBT Bank Inclusion Roundtable for their awesome donation of warm bags to the WRAP Center! 💙 With our weekend hours now up and running, donations like these are such a big help, especially with the colder weather coming!

We really do have some pretty incredible people around us, and we’re so lucky to have a community that cares the way ours does. Thank you for always showing up for us and the people we serve! 💙

When we said we needed more community resources, AnnMarie understood the assignment. 😂

Our Assistant Director of Housing Services, AnnMarie Smith, teamed up with Chobani to get some Super Milk donated to the WRAP Center!

What’s really cool about this milk is that it’s packed with extra protein and nutrients, but it’s also shelf-stable! For people who don’t have a fridge or even a place to call home, that’s actually a pretty big deal. It’s something nutritious they can take with them without having to worry about keeping it cold until it’s opened.

A big thank you to Chobani for the donation and to AnnMarie for making it happen! We love when our community comes together like this! 💙🥛

For those who may not know, the WRAP Center is the name of our building, and inside are two separate programs.

Our daytime program is open 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm, providing people experiencing homelessness a place to rest, access resources, and connect with services and community partners.

Our Warming Center operates year round and is a 15-bed, nonresidential, first-come, first-served overnight program. Its purpose is simply to give people experiencing homelessness a safe place to sleep and get out of the elements.

And while that might sound pretty simple, there’s so much more to what providing someone with a safe place to sleep can actually do.

Our Executive Director, Robin Cotter, always says to take the face off the person, put them in the center of the room and look at what supports they need right where they are in life.

And that’s exactly what we try to do here.

The people who come to our Warming Center need the bare minimum. A safe place to sleep out of the elements. And yes, we absolutely provide that. Along with compassion, understanding, support and people who genuinely care about what happens to them and show up consistently.

We can physically see the change in someone after they’ve been able to access the center at night for a week. We see the small wins and the little victories that might not look like much to someone else. We see the let downs and losses as well.

There is no one reason people lose housing or experience homelessness. We see people from all walks of life, and the truth is it can happen to anyone.

And we would hope that if it were your daughter, son, sister, brother, mother, father or even your grandparent going through one of the worst times in their life, the people they ran into would be the kind of people you see in this picture. Because sometimes the WRAP Center is the only support someone has been able to find in a very long time.

This team is that support. They all come from different walks of life, have different personalities, experiences and skill sets. They navigate difficult situations, support one another, work through setbacks and show up again the next day. They never ask for recognition (if you could have seen what it took to get them all in a picture after our staff meeting! 🤣) or think they’re doing something beyond what anyone else would do.

For so many people, that safe place to sleep has been the stepping stone to a different life.

The people in this picture, along with those who couldn’t be here today, are the ones who make that possible.

We’re incredibly proud of this crew and the difference they’re making in our community every single day. 💙

We had a pretty special outcome at the W.R.A.P. Center this week that we have permission to share from the individuals… they said to share HOPE.

Two individuals who came to us after spending a couple of really rough years living on the streets were welcomed back home by their families for a fresh start.

Something we think often gets overlooked when we talk about homelessness is the impact it has on families and loved ones, too. After years of instability, relationships can become strained, communication gets lost, and families are left worrying about where their loved ones are, where they’re sleeping, and if they’re even safe.

Of course, we know that reconnecting with family isn’t always possible or even what’s best for everyone. But when those relationships can be safely mended, having that love and support back in someone’s life can make such a difference.

When these two came to the center, they had somewhere safe to rest and start finding some stability again. They had access to things we sometimes take for granted, like a phone and the internet to stay connected with people. Multiple agencies worked together to help them access resources and support, and little by little, things started changing.

Their families started seeing those changes, too.

They knew where their loved ones were at night and knew they were safe. They were able to communicate regularly and see the progress they were making this helped bring back some hope and trust that had been lost along the way.

This week, both were welcomed home by their families. 💙

We’ve gotten to know these two, watched their progress, and had the opportunity to be part of their journey. We are so excited to see what having the love and support of their families, along with the resources they’ve connected to, will mean for their future.

We think this is a great reminder that the impact of having a safe place to go reaches a lot further than just the individual walking through our doors.

One of the best parts of this was watching them be so encouraging to other guests before they left. Watching hopelessness turn into Hope… Well that is contagious 💙

Warmth is more than heat. It’s human.

Starting Saturday, October 17th, our Daytime Drop-In Program will officially be open 7 days a week! 🎉

That means both the W.R.A.P. Center’s daytime program and our overnight Warming Center will now be available every day of the week!

We’re excited to expand our hours and continue providing a safe, welcoming space for those in our community who need it.

When we think about someone experiencing homelessness, we think sometimes it’s typical to picture just one person but the reality is homelessness also affects families. And this story is about a family…

It’s a child who deserves a safe place to call home and parents trying their absolute best to keep working, keep their family together, and keep moving forward while also trying to navigate a housing crisis.

Over the last several weeks, we watched a whole village come together around one young family. We watched these parents keep showing up, keep working, and jump through every hoop put in front of them because they wanted stability for their family. Today, they have their own apartment. 💙

There were tears of joy shared by just about everyone involved and moments like this remind us how far the impact of a housing crisis can reach. Trying to find a place to live while keeping a job, caring for your child, making appointments, filling out paperwork, and doing everything being asked of you is A LOT.

We also got to see what can happen when a community comes together instead of letting a family navigate it alone.

We are incredibly grateful for every person and agency who played a part in helping this family get home. We are SO excited to see what comes next for them.

This is one of those stories that shows how much can change when someone keeps going.

We watched him move from the Warming Center to the motel, then on to getting a job and a car. Today, he came in to tell us that he officially has permanent housing. 💙

He told us, “There were days when I would get so down that I felt like giving up, but I learned that I had to lift myself up and keep going because things do work out.”

He had been working toward this for two years. Along the way, there were setbacks, frustrations, and plenty of hard days but he kept going.

And today, he has a place to call home.💙

We’re looking for people who are compassionate, dependable, comfortable with de-escalation, and able to meet people where they are.

We are so grateful 💙

Twice a week two families from our church sponsor and make dinner for the Warming Center side of W.R.A.P.. Cooking for 15+ people is a recipe duplicating challenge!! Tonight’s dinner was Southwest Casserole with corn bread and cookies for dessert. Jesus said “ Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these you did for me”. Matthew 25:40
