Grisell Figueroa is an award-winning administrative assistant, a mom, and “the heart and the glue of the CBHI office," according to Children's Behavioral Health Initiative Director Ash Reynolds.

When you visit River Valley Counseling Center's CBHI Chicopee office, Grisell is often the first person you'll meet. Behind her desk, a wall filled with awards and pictures tells a story of celebration and support that reflects Figueroa’s approach to her work at CBHI, which provides in-home therapy to children and families throughout western Massachusetts.

“What truly sets Grisell apart is her warm and kind nature; she welcomes everyone with authentic hospitality and maintains a calm, approachable demeanor even under pressure,” said Angela Bouchard, a member of the therapeutic training and support staff.

Another fantastic day of community, celebration, and joy at this year's Buddy Walk! 💜❤️

ServiceNet tabled at the event once again, connecting folks to some of our wonderful programs like Whole Children and Milestones, Autism Connections, Family Empowerment and more!

It was a full day of activities. People ate popcorn, cotton candy, and other snacks, had their faces painted, and played lawn games. This year's Grand Marshal, Abby, led the walk around the beautiful Stanley Park! After the walk, folks got to dance and watch the Friendship Band perform!

Thank you Down Syndrome Resource Group of Western Mass' for putting on yet another amazing Buddy Walk.

very first "Lunch and Link Up." Staff and clinicians came together for lunch and a moment away from the screens in the office.

"It was fantastic seeing so many people drop in," said Senior Director of Clinical Operations Ann Tabb. "I think it's important for everyone to have opportunities to get to know one another and have a moment to relax."

Future Lunch and Link Ups are going to be themed and have different seasonal activities, like trivia or pumpkin painting for October.🎃

The Friendship Band provided a rocking soundtrack as hundreds of human-services staff from multiple organizations came together at Westfield State University on Friday, Sept. 18, for the Providers’ Council annual western Mass rally!

The Providers' Council is the largest association of human services agencies in Massachusetts. Its annual rally unites human-services workers and advocates to call for fair wages and increased funding for human service organizations.

The Friendship Band, which brings together musicians with and without disabilities as part of our Whole Children™ and Milestones programs, got the crowd moving with upbeat rock and roll, including many original tunes.

The folks at the Enrichment Center have been busy enjoying the beautiful outdoors!

Participants enjoyed the breeze during a bike ride at Chicopee Memorial State Park, thanks to a collaboration with Western Mass Wheelers! 🚲🌳 On another trip, folks spent time with the animals at Springfield's Forest Park. Everyone had a lot of fun feeding the goats!🐐

The Enrichment Center helps people with acquired brain injuries build skills, connections, and a sense of community.

BusinessWest recognized Autism Connections as a Healthcare Hero, recognizing the team's dedication to supporting autistic people and their families throughout western Massachusetts🌟

As the western Massachusetts Autism Support Center, Autism Connections provides families with direct services, information, advocacy resources, education, and opportunities for connection with more than 120 events each year.

This year the program started a new and popular event: the Autism Connections Prom, where 116 autistic adults enjoyed an inclusive prom.

"They have created a place where people can find not only resources and support, but connection, belonging, and possibilities," said Karen Serra, ServiceNet's vice president of family services.

Family Empowerment and ServiceNet's Prospect Meadow Farm marched in the Franklin County Fairgrounds, Greenfield, Ma parade!

Family Empowerment's team marched with a beautiful, handmade banner. Work crews from Prospect Meadow Farm worked hard, using sunflowers and crops to capture this year's theme, "History Grows Here," for their float —which won first place in the agriculture category!

Both programs have sown seeds and cultivated roots to build strong programs that give folks opportunities to thrive in an interconnected community.

Family Empowerment is a Family Support Center for Hampshire and Franklin Counties and helps families find state and local resources for loved ones with disabilities. Prospect Meadow Farm is our therapeutic, vocational farming program, providing meaningful employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and other mental health challenges.

Participants in ServiceNet’s Skillbuilders Makerspace+ are making all kinds of cool stuff — and gaining job skills as they do!

At our space in downtown Chicopee, they socialize, play music, and use a 3D printer, a screen printer, and sewing machines and other tools for crafting, including a kiln for ceramics.

Helping orchestrate all this is Josie Maldonado, director of Skillbuilders Makerspace+, a work-readiness program for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Maldonado has been with Skillbuilders since it first got started in late 2023. She's grown personally and professionally alongside the program, and she's watched participants grow in the same way, overcoming their own challenges.

“Knowing that we have made a positive impact in someone’s life,” Maldonado said, “is the greatest reward of all.”
