We had a wonderful time this afternoon singing at the Yachats Pride Festival. Our third year singing at this event and each year has been better than the last. We had the opportunity to wear our new chorus shirts and debut one of our new songs.

Next up you will find us at the Waldport Beachcombers Festival. Saturday June 20th the chorus Woman of the Year Dixie Lorange will be riding in the parade. After the parade, the chorus will be singing at the Vendor Fair by the Community Center at 2:15p.

Trying something a little different at rehearsal. We started with everyone walking around the room and greeting each other. And then get on the risers and sing “Come on and Sing”. Amazing what a difference it makes when they start out laughing and being silly. Hmmm. What to do next week?

Despite the wind and the rain the annual Fleet of Flowers in Depoe Bay was still an emotional event. Established in 1945, it began as a tribute to two local fishermen who lost their lives in 1936 attempting to save a fellow fisherman. The event expanded to include all seafarers, civilians, and military personnel who lost their lives at sea. Traditionally, local fishing boats loaded with flowers parade out to sea to drop the flowers on the ocean. This year due to the rough seas only the coast guard could go out. Bad weather did not dampen our spirits as we sang the National Anthem.

Thursday night amidst rehearsing and getting ready for summer performances. We took the time to celebrate Evelyn. She has been a steady dependable member of the chorus for close to 30 years. Recently she ended her term on the chorus management team and conducted the Installation of the new team members. She had a gift for each of the departing members except herself. So Thursday Jenn our new Team Leader and Mary our Director presented her with flowers and a bottle of her favorite beverage. Thank you Evelyn from all of us.

Last night OCC celebrated our new management team. The theme for the evening was a Cinco deMayo celebration. The room was colorfully decorated and everyone brought their favorite food to share. The Woman of the Year and the Directors Choice Award winner were revealed. Lots of sharing, lots of laughter, and some singing too.

Last Thursday rehearsal was one of celebration. Listened to a new song that we will start working on later this month. Also celebrated Sandy’s 3rd year of membership in the chorus and a belated birthday for Evelyn.

Group singing is a bonding experience for young and old. If you are new to the area or just looking for a group of women to bond with visit the Oregon Coast Chorus. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6-8:30pm at the Newport American Legion 424 West Olive St. We are preparing new music for a variety of summer and fall performances. We had a productive rehearsal tonight as we prepare for our upcoming performance. Consider attending a vendor fair sponsored by The ARC on Sunday, 3/15/26, to support their fundraising efforts for building upgrades. The ARC building is located at 321 SE 3rd St in Toledo, OR. OCC will be performing at 12:30pm. Join the festive program of local musicians as you browse the sales tables.

A highlight of the evening was a lovely lady who came to observe us. Ingrid, who previously sang with a Sweet Adeline chorus in Texas, is new to the Newport area and is seeking a group of like-minded women to connect with. She even sang a couple of familiar songs with us. We welcome Ingrid and look forward to her return.

You may also notice a young man in the picture. River, who accompanies his mom to rehearsal, is quickly becoming our videographer.

Our chorus is always open to visitors. Come join us any Thursday evening from 6p to 8:30p at the American Legion,424 West Olive St in Newport, OR.
