Land to Learn As thousands of children across the Hudson Valley participate in weekly standards-based garden education, they develop a love of learning and the outdoors.

Land to Learn cultivates connection to food, land, and community by engaging youth in hands-on, garden-based education that nourishes health, ecological awareness, and collective well-being. Land to Learn educates children in school gardens, empowering students through curriculum-integrated lessons focused on healthy eating, food literacy, outdoor learning and academic success. As students plant s

eeds, steward the land, and share new foods with their peers, they are also cultivating compassion, patience and self discipline. By partnering with schools to provide students with innovative, experiential and project-based food education, Land to Learn helps students connect discoveries in the classroom to action in the community.

LETTUCE tell you about salad! This week, we brought back our Cafeteria Taste Tests in the Beacon City School District elementary schools at Glenham, South Ave and Sargent. Kids were served/offered lettuce donated by Common Ground Farm, prepared into a yummy salad by the Food Service staff. Children then marked if they Loved It, Liked It, or if it Wasn't For Me. Look at all those Love and Like stickers! That's just the tip of the iceberg (LOL). A few kids who refused the offer of a tasting eventually came back to us and asked if they could try it! That's a win!

Kids at Glenham Elementary School in the Beacon City School District tried Caesar salad today with lettuce provided from Common Ground Farm for a Vegetable of the Month Taste Test! Look at all the YES - I LIKED IT stickers! We observed a handful of children who said no to the offer of lettuce at first, then came up to our volunteers and said, "Actually, can I try some?" And guess what? Most changed their minds and decided they DID like lettuce!
