Safe Harbors of the Hudson

Safe Harbors of the Hudson Transforming lives and building community through housing and the arts.

Safe Harbors of the Hudson is a dynamic arts and housing nonprofit located in the City of Newburgh, New York. Safe Harbors plays an integral role in Newburgh’s continuing revitalization through innovative redevelopment projects that co-locate supportive and affordable housing with visual and performing arts spaces and programming. Safe Harbors operates the Cornerstone Residence, which provides sup

portive housing for 128 of our neighbors; the Ann Street Gallery, a contemporary visual arts venue; Safe Harbors Green, a vital green space and outdoor stage in the heart of our community; and the Ritz Theater, the last historic performance venue in Newburgh which Safe Harbors is restoring into a flexible performance space for presentation, creation, education, and engagement

📻 Have you tuned in to Safe Harbors Radio yet? Today we’re spotlighting SAFE HARBORS RADIO HOUR, hosted by our very own Lisa Silverstone and Ken Martinez!

About the Show:
Safe Harbors Radio Hour brings Safe Harbors' mission onto the airwaves through interviews with local performing artists, visual artists, and Newburgh movers and shakers. In each episode, hosts Lisa and Ken will highlight, amplify, and connect listeners to Safe Harbors’ programming, events, and community.

In their first episode, Lisa and Ken kick-off Safe Harbors Radio Hour by sitting down with Matthew Mottel, Safe Harbors Radio co-founder and sound engineer, to discuss this new endeavor and what to expect from Safe Harbors Radio over the coming months. Next, they speak with Kelly Schroer, founder and curator of Strongroom, a non-profit that produces site-specific contemporary art installations in Newburgh, and is currently presenting HOLDING LIGHT SUTRA, a multimedia installation by Millicent Young in Safe Harbors’ Ritz Theater Stagehouse.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Safe Harbors Radio, a new community project broadcasting interviews, music, live events, and more from our storefront recording studio on Broadway.

📡You can tune in at 102.1 FM when you're on our campus, online and on demand at www.SafeHarborsRadio.org, or by downloading the Wave Farm Radio app.

Safe Harbors Radio will feature a monthly roster of pre-recorded programs repeated daily. As we continue recording, we’ll add new offerings and live broadcasts in the coming months.

💥Introducing our June Lineup:

HUMAN REALITY WITH MATT MOTTEL – Conversations with Hudson Valley folks involved in culture, music, art, business, agriculture and life.

LET’S KICK IT RADIO – Drawing on their expertise with hip-hop and the creative arts, poet Daniel Villegas and DJ H20 talk about anything and everything that deals with life and music.

FROM LIMA TO NEWBURGH – Angel Lau is a percussionist and musician from Newburgh whose sets pull from Afro-Peruvian music, jazz, electronic sounds, global grooves, and heavy percussion.

¡VAEL SARELA NINGÚN GUERRA JAM SESH! – Vael Sarela and friends bring you an improv experimental experience, inspired by creating in the face of destructive warfare.

SIGNALS FROM 12550 – Matt Mottel hosts a freeform-style Newburgh-centered music show curated by searching for ‘Newburgh’ in Bandcamp. All genres, all local.

Safe Harbors Radio is produced in partnership with the Newburgh Free Library and the Wave Farm Transmit Partner program. Funding for Safe Harbors Radio community DJs has been provided by AwesomeNewburgh.

In honor of 10 years of Safe Harbors Green, take a tour with Bryan Quinn, the artist and applied ecologist who designed this special space. Recorded in 2015, we love how this video explains so much of makes Safe Harbors Green unique — and are grateful to Bryan and his One Nature () team for all their work in stewarding it.

There is much wonderful art to appreciate in Newburgh, and Cornerstone residents are taking advantage!

Last month, residents visited the wonderful Bank Art Gallery and caught the last few days of the spring exhibition at our very own Ann Street Gallery. There's definitely more to see but that's all for now! Newburgh is so lucky to be home to such a vibrant art community.
