❤️🖤💚 Juneteenth: Honoring Freedom, Heritage, and Community
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black communities throughout history.
Food has long played an important role in Juneteenth celebrations, bringing people together to honor culture, preserve traditions, and strengthen community bonds. From family recipes passed down through generations to the agricultural knowledge and innovation of Black farmers, food remains a powerful connection to history and identity.
As we celebrate Juneteenth, we also recognize that access to healthy, affordable, and culturally relevant food is an important part of building stronger, more equitable communities.
Food justice is community justice. Today, we honor the resilience, traditions, and agricultural history that continue to shape Newark's future. ✨
