Two-time Grammy Award-winning R & B singer Peabo Bryson gave us many beautiful duets like "“Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” and “You’re Looking Like Love to Me”, but he's best known for his Disney duets "Beauty and the Beast" and "Whole New World". Bryson died yesterday (June 2, 2026) at the age of 75. I will forever treasure my in-depth WBGO interview with Peabo last October during his "Golden Touch Tour. RIP.

If you’ve heard Shenel Johns sing, it’s hard to imagine she could have taken any other path. But for the Connecticut-born vocalist—shaped by gospel reggae in her Jamaican household and later drawn into jazz—that path wasn’t always so clear.

In a recent interview with WBGO’s Kyla Marshell—Shenel talks about touring Africa with Jazz at Lincoln Center and what that experience taught her about music, culture, and connection across the world.
