COLORING MODERNISM: Modulightor Tour & Sketch Day

Join us on Saturday, October 10th for a special Paul Rudolph coloring event!

Guests will tour Paul Rudolph’s Modulightor Building, experiencing one of the only Rudolph–designed public spaces in New York City. The visit will highlight Rudolph’s personal objects and collected artifacts, offering a look into his eye for form and material.

Afterwards, we'll supply some Modulightor coloring pages for a relaxed, hands-on coloring session using provided crayons or you can bring your own sketchbook to draw whatever inspires you. We’ll also have some cookies and sparkling water to enjoy.

The event is designed as an easygoing way to look closely, slow down, and leave with a deeper appreciation for Rudolph’s world.

Saturday, October 10 2026
12:00 - 2:00 pm

Modulightor
246 East 58th Street
New York, NY 10022

All proceeds benefit the Paul Rudolph Institute for Modern Architecture. If you have any questions please call us at (212) 404-5922 or email [email protected]

The Burnette Residence in Sarasota, Florida designed in 1949 by Ralph Twitchell and Paul Rudolph. The planes of reinforced concrete flat-slab construction are plastered to give the house a monolithic quality. The structure was torn down in 2018 to make room for a bigger house on the site.

The unbuilt proposal for the Shoreline Community Facilities in Buffalo, New York, designed by Paul Rudolph in 1972. Although unrealized, the school portion was later built by local architects Hess and Gorey and operates as PS 095 Waterfront Elementary School. While the Waterfront School remains active, its sister complex - the brutalist Shoreline Apartments - suffered decades of disrepair, leading to its vacancy in 2018 and subsequent phased demolition.

The final scheme for the unbuilt New Haven Government Center in New Haven, Connecticut designed by Paul Rudolph in 1968. Rudolph’s design preserves part of the existing Victorian Gothic building facing the green - and use the section with its grand stair as the entrance to the city's new offices.
