She almost gave up on her dream. Then someone chose to believe in her.

Behind every young woman at is a circle like that. A parent who sacrifices so she can take a chance. A mentor who pushes her to think bigger. A community that makes room for her to grow. A business that opens its doors and gives her a shot at an internship.

Transformation is rarely a solo journey; it is built through collective action. Young women gain skills. They get dignified and fulfilling work. They earn. They lead. They change their lives, their families, and their communities.

That is how change lasts.

We're grateful to Mastercard Foundation for making this partnership possible, and to our local partners, Perur Rays Of Hope. and Helga Kajiado, with whom we are walking this journey together.

In rural Kenya, dignity isn't an abstract idea.

We sat down with three graduates of Westpokot to understand what dignity means to them. Their answers stayed with us.

For Stella Chepyatich, a cosmetology graduate, dignity is self-worth and financial stability, standing on her own. But it's also generosity: showing up for her family, her community, the people around her.

Irene Cheruto, an electrical installation graduate, defines dignity as being valued for exactly who you are, no matter where you come from.

For Sabina Chepkemoi, an electrical installation graduate, dignity is found in the quiet, everyday moments: staying calm under pressure, listening before speaking, and showing respect even when things get hard.

Three young women. Different stories. One shared journey.

But when we listened closely, one truth kept surfacing: dignity is Being seen. Being valued. Being respected while you build the future you deserve.

These smiles say it all!
They're proof of what's possible when young women are given the skills, mentorship, and support to build a future of their own. From access to opportunity to achievement, one story at a time. Helga Kajiado

Linet Nawar didn't arrive at HER Lab West Pokot with a roadmap. She arrived with curiosity. What she found was bigger: new skills in cosmetology, new confidence, new possibilities.

"I came in unsure of what to expect. Now I feel ready for what comes next."

Today she has graduated and is completing her internship, working towards her dream of opening her salon, one she hopes will create opportunities for other women too.

Confidence rarely comes first. Action does. Linet didn't wait until she had all the answers.

She took the first step, then the next.

That's how futures are built.

Too many impact reports make you dig for the human story. We think it deserves the spotlight!

So this week, we did something to change that.

We launched our NEW WEBSITE!πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

This is an important step in making our impact more human, transparent, and easy to act on. It's a commitment: real-time data, evidence, and stories, all working toward one goal: smarter investment in gender equity.

And in perfect timing, our Founder & CEO Linda Latsko Lockhart's article "Beyond the Numbers: Evidence That Unlocks Capital for Grass-roots Change" was published this same week in Philanthropy Impact Magazine.

In it, she reflects on what two decades of working with women and girls have taught her: Impact reporting can do so much more than measure progress. Done right, it builds trust. It strengthens accountability. It gets money moving to where it's needed most.

None of this happens alone. Huge thanks to our partners: Mastercard Foundation and Suze Orman for believing in this work and walking alongside us. And to our partners on the ground, Helga Kajiado and Perur Rays Of Hope. along our technical partners Group Limited, who make HER Lab real in the communities every single day.

To every mentor, partner, and participant turning learning into action and purpose into impact: thank you.

This is our promise with a new website: making impact visible, trusted, and investable, so women-led change can scale further and faster.

6 months ago, a young woman in Kajiado had never installed a toilet cistern system or pitched a business idea in a room. She never expected either one to be part of her future.

Today, she is doing both!

That's what "future-ready" looks like at HER Lab: technical skills and soft skills, side by side.

So what is HER Lab, actually?

It's a workforce-readiness program for young women from rural and marginalized communities in Kajiado and West Pokot, built on one idea: talent is everywhere, opportunity isn't. HER Lab closes that gap.

She learns a trade: Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Solar PV, ICT, Fashion Design, Food Production, Cosmetology, Agripreneurship, or Automotive Mechanics.

She learns to lead: mentorship, confidence, communication, and financial literacy.

And she walks out equipped to go for an internship, then get a job or go into entrepreneurship; real paths to dignified and fulfilling work.
Not one skill. The whole young woman.

That's HER Lab. And she's just getting started.

Happy World Youth Skills Day! πŸŽ‰

At HER Lab, we recognize the interpersonal skills that our young women continue to nurture every day, right alongside their trades.

Like the young woman who hadn't spoken up in a classroom in eight years. We trained her on public speaking, then handed her a microphone and gave her two minutes to talk. She realized she actually had something worth saying. Today, she speaks up with confidence.

That's the skill no certificate can capture.

This year's theme, "Skills for a Shared Future," is a reminder that young people don't just need a trade; they need the confidence and empathy to lead with.

Automotive Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Plumbing, and Cosmetology, alongside other technical courses our young women do, they are also finding their voice and making room for the next young woman to find hers too.

Today we celebrate all of them, and the partners walking this journey with HER Mastercard Foundation, Helga Kajiado Perur Rays Of Hope. Group.

Tomorrow is World Youth Skills Day! Yesterday we asked you what future-ready looks like. Here's the answer: It looks like a young woman who can install a water system, then walk into a room and own it.

That is not two different women. That is one future-ready young woman.

The young women at HER Lab are stacking their skills: plumbing and public speaking, tailoring and leadership, cosmetology and digital literacy.

Technical skill is powerful. Paired with confidence, voice, and care- the human skills no technology can replace- it changes everything.

With World Youth Skills Day just days away, here's a question worth sitting with: what does being future-ready actually look like?

It's not one skill.

It's a young woman who can hold many skills at once: the technical and the digital, the practical and the deeply human.

In West Pokot and Kajiado, the young women at HER Lab aren't waiting for that future. They're building it; one skill, one decision, one bold step at a time.

None of this happens alone. This work is made possible in partnership with Mastercard Foundation and implemented together with our local partners Perur Rays Of Hope. and Helga Kajiado, alongside our technical partner Group.

Leadership, confidence, and communication aren't just "soft skills." They're life-changing skills.

At HER Lab, young women from marginalised communities spend months building what too often goes unmodeled: how to speak up in a room, how to trust their own judgment, and how to lead, even when no one has shown them what that looks like before.

Alongside digital literacy, plumbing , entrepreneurship and electrical installationbamong other hands-on skills, HER Lab participants are learning to advocate for themselves, own their stories, pitch their business ideas, and lead with confidence.

This is what economic empowerment looks like in practice: a mindset shift paired with real skills for dignified, fulfilling work.

Together with our partners Helga Kajiado Perur Rays Of Hope. Group Ltd, we're proud to champion HER journey.
