Welcome to Assisi! I’m on my way to Rome to receive the pallium from Pope Leo XIV. We’re a Church on mission, and it was here in Assisi that God told St. Francis to repair His Church. Friends, I invite you, with me, to continue to follow St. Francis of Assisi as we look for ways within the mission of the church to rebuilt it, and repair it, and to renew it.

Today we celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist who is the only saint besides the Blessed Mother whose birth is honored on the Church’s calendar. Called from the birth to prepare the way of the Lord, his life reminds us to point others to Christ with humility and courage.

From Roman senator to humble bishop, St. Paulinus gave up power, wealth, and status to serve the poor and follow Christ. A poet, a shepherd, and a friend to the greatest minds of his time, he reminds us that true greatness looks like choosing the forgotten over privilege.

He is the patron of poets, bell ringers and those who give everything in service to others.

Today, the Church honors Saints Thomas More and John Fisher, courageous witnesses who remained faithful to Christ and His Church even in the face of persecution and death. Their unwavering commitment to truth, conscience, and the Gospel reminds us that holiness often requires courage. May their example inspire us to stand firm in our faith and trust in God's grace in every circumstance.

On this Father's Day, we give thanks for the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures whose faith and love guide and strengthen their families, and we pray that God blesses them with wisdom as their example shines on in their children's lives.

Happy Father's Day from the Archdiocese of New York.

Saint Romuald (c. 951–1027) founded the Camaldolese order and believed holiness grows in silence and solitude. On his feast day, may we make space, even briefly, for quiet prayer and a deeper turning toward God.

Love your enemies! This is the command we receive today in the Gospel. If you had to think of the one person who loves their enemies the best, who is it? And how do they do it?
