New York VOAD New York VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) is a chapter of National VOAD.

The disaster doesn't end when the storm passes—or when the cameras leave.

Immediate response may last days or weeks, but recovery can continue for months or even years. Survivors may still be navigating housing, rebuilding, financial assistance, disaster case management, and other unmet needs long after a disaster leaves the headlines.

Across the VOAD Movement, organizations remain committed to communities throughout that journey. National VOAD's Long Term Recovery Committee helps strengthen this work by bringing members together to share expertise, identify best practices, and support effective community-led recovery.

Communities can also turn to the National VOAD Resource Center, which includes tools and guidance to help establish and operate Long Term Recovery Groups (LTRGs) and support communities throughout the recovery process.

Being Ready to Respond. Ready to Recover. means showing up when disaster strikes—and making sure communities have the relationships, knowledge, and resources they need for the long road ahead.

Measles outbreaks in South Carolina, Utah, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Florida, and Arizona have contributed to a record number of measles cases in the U.S. this year.

These outbreaks are the result of declining childhood vaccination rates. 93% of measles cases in 2026 are among unvaccinated people, according to CDC data.

VOICES 25th Anniversary NYC Symposium is less than seven weeks away, and we're pleased to share an update on some of our confirmed speakers.

📅On September 8, the program highlights professionals in law enforcement, counterterrorism, and emergency management. Co-Deputy Director of the FBI, Chris Raia, will deliver a keynote address, followed by presentations from distinguished professionals, many of whom responded in the aftermath of 9/11 and continue to play a vital role in keeping our communities safe.

📅On September 9 and 10, our 9/11 Community Partners will provide updates on the issues that continue to impact victims' families, responders, survivors, and those who serve them. The Symposium also provides an opportunity for the 9/11 Community to gather in advance of the 25th Anniversary.

The Symposium will be held in person and via livestream. The program is free, but registration is required. More details will be shared soon.
