S'Cool Sounds 🎶 🎶
www.learnscoolsounds.org SCS programs emphasize cross-cultural musical training within an ensemble setting.

S’Cool Sounds promotes communication, mutual respect, and global awareness through musical training for children who lack access to arts education. Our teachers nurture joyous musical expression while fostering life-long developmental benefits for their students. S’Cool Sounds (SCS) provides hands-on music instruction for K-12 children through classroom teaching, after school programs, and communi

ty events. S’Cool Sounds maintains on-going relationships with multiple New York City schools and partnerships with schools and community centers abroad (in Kenya, Jordan). Students learn to play recorders and percussion – universal instruments easily learned in the beginning stages – and quickly come together into vibrantly functioning musical ensembles that remain accessible to any level of training. Montessori and Orff Schulwerk music expert Matilda Giampietro works with SCS Teaching Artists to develop a flexible curriculum that utilizes Artistic Director Nina Stern's “Recorders Without Borders” method as well as proven techniques for cultivating students’ music literacy – including songs, dances, and singing games that integrate physical, aural, and language skills.

March is Music in Our Schools Month! At P.S. 24 in Sunset Park, S’Cool Sounds Teaching Artist Sam Bardfeld has spent more than three years building a violin program that grew from a small club into a polished ensemble. This year, the group was selected to represent their school at the district-wide arts showcase, performing American folk tunes that highlight their musical growth and the strong partnerships behind the program.

Nina and Nancy Jo kicked off their Kenya visit with a full-day workshop for the African Women’s Orchestra, focusing on how strong individual practice (like listening, preparation, and discipline strategies) creates powerful ensemble performances.
