V&A Dundee David Bowie: On Tour Exhibition will open November 4th!

Bringing together around 100 highlights from the V&A’s David Bowie archive – many that have never been on public display before – David Bowie: On Tour will offer a rare glimpse into Bowie’s creative process and enduring impact.

Across four sections, discover the behind-the-scenes story of how he created his ever-evolving iconic image, music and screen work.

Highlights include legendary costumes, musical instruments and career-spanning photography, plus never-before-seen items including Polaroids for make-up and costume fittings, a Ziggy Stardust-era acoustic guitar, unrealised scripts, handwritten lyrics, performance notes and costumes from Bowie’s final albums, The Next Day and ★ (Blackstar).

On Wednesday October 21st, please join us for an evening with the Society of Antiquarians as they share the background to the Isle of Lewis chess pieces, 12th-century artifacts discovered on the Scottish coast in 1831.

These hand-carved chess pieces are considered among the most famous and intriguing artifacts in the world of chess, and their origins are still subject to various theories and interpretations, shrouded in the mysteries of medieval Europe.

The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland is one of Scotland's oldest institutions, founded in 1780, and will also share their future plans and ways to be involved.

CEILIDH is a brand new musical that invites you to step into the heart of one of Scotland's oldest and most beloved traditions. It’s a gathering of songs, stories and dances, all while sharing a dram or two along the way.

Led by a lively caller, you’ll be swept up in a whirlwind of music and memories from the moment you walk through the door. But as the music builds and the night takes hold, a story begins to unfold. A family story. One of love, legacy, and why tonight's ceilidh matters more than most.

Fresh from a sell-out season in Baltimore, CEILIDH makes its premiere at Shoreditch Town Hall. This joyous, irreverent, heart-pounding night is created by award-winning duo Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie(Noisemaker) and directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Sam Pinkleton (Oh, Mary!).

Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2026

The excitement continues this fall in Edinburgh with the Scottish International Storytelling Festival! The festival presents world-class storytellers who celebrate the tradition, but also push the modern boundaries of storytelling as well, rooted in the past, resonating in the present.

The Festival takes place in October each year with long nights drawing families and friends around the hearth - a community gathering full of tales, anecdotes, music, songs and ballads.

Join Dr David Caldwell and Dr Simon Gilmour for a fascinating exploration of how the last word has not yet been said about these iconic Scottish treasures.

Despite almost 200 years of study and debate, the Lewis Chess Pieces continue to raise intriguing questions and reveal new insights. Drawing on his extensive research, Dr Caldwell will explore what we know, what remains uncertain, and what these extraordinary objects can tell us about medieval Scotland and the wider world in which they were created.

The evening will also look to the future, exploring how the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland’s proposed national Heritage Hub will support new research, collaboration and discoveries about Scotland’s past, including the continuing story of the Chess Pieces.

A passion for our heritage and a preparedness to ask questions are the perfect starting point for this compelling excursion into Scottish medieval history and archaeology.
