💜 Together in Purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month! 💜

As we close out October, Neighborhood SHOPP staff came together in recognition of NYC Go Purple Day and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Through our Elder Justice and Crime Victims Assistance Programs (CVAP), we remain committed to raising awareness, supporting victims and survivors, and promoting safer communities for older adults and beyond.

Wearing purple is a reminder that survivors are not alone and that awareness, support, and advocacy make a difference.

Through our continued partnership, we stand united in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and advocating for safer communities for all ages.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

At Neighborhood SHOPP, we remain committed to advancing elder justice and supporting older adults and others who may be experiencing domestic violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other forms of victimization.

Through our VIP Elder Justice & Crime Victims Program, our team provides support, advocacy, information, referrals, and connections to resources for individuals who may be victims of domestic violence or other crimes.

We also offer in-service trainings and educational presentations to partner organizations, professionals, and community members to help increase awareness, recognize warning signs, and strengthen our collective response to elder abuse and domestic violence.

It takes a village. An informed community builds a stronger community. 💜

NORC Lafayette Estates closed out the summer with an end of year BBQ at Bear Mountain State Park. The members and staff enjoyed a day of sunshine, music, food and community engagement with peers.

Community Outreach in Action 💫

SHOPP NY Connects BX Program was pleased to participate alongside Replications, Inc., I.S. 217, Action Academy, school staff, and other community-based organizations in the Community School Forum & Family Night event on Friday. This event brought together students, families, educators, and community partners allowing families to learn about available programs, services, and resources while enjoying refreshments, raffles, giveaways, connections and more.

Neighborhood SHOPP was proud to participate in JASA’s Annual Elder Justice Conference, celebrating 20 years of advancing elder justice! 💜

The conference brought professionals together to explore innovative strategies in preventing elder abuse and strengthening support for older adults.

SHOPP remains committed to putting this shared knowledge into action and advocating for the safety, dignity, and rights of older adults in the communities we serve.

We also congratulate Paul Caccamise, LMSW VP of Programs at Lifespan of Greater Rochester on receiving the Change Agent Award for his commitment in the field of Elder Justice and a valued community partner to many throughout NY State.

Neighborhood SHOPP is proud to congratulate Emmy Alba, Team Leader in our Case Management Program, who was honored at the 2026 Stars Awards Ceremony on September 24th by Citymeals on Wheels! 👏💜

Emmy is a dedicated supervisor who supports and guides our case managers in their important work serving homebound older adults. Through care coordination and connections to vital services and resources, Emmy and her team help older New Yorkers remain safe, supported, and independent at home and in their communities.
