We’re proud to be part of a community working to advance literacy for young readers!📚

On September 25th, Read Alliance joined fellow Library of Congress Literacy Awards recipients and honorees at the Regional Gathering in New Brunswick, NJ. The event brought together literacy organizations from across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania to share ideas, learn from one another, and explore new ways to support readers.

We’re grateful for opportunities like these to connect with others who share our commitment to literacy and help more young people build the skills and confidence to succeed.

Our newest piece for Forbes shows what happens when college becomes more accessible for young people. With the average school counselor caseload at 372 students, the guidance young people need often has to come from beyond the school building. Through our Teen Leadership Program and Pathways to Education Initiative, Read Alliance helps open doors to postsecondary opportunity through paid work experience, college credit, campus visits, and hands-on application support for Teen Leaders.

Read Alliance took the field at Citi Field to accept the Community Hero Award from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation! We’re incredibly grateful to the Amazin' Mets Fdn for supporting Read Alliance with a grant for our tutoring and youth employment programs in Queens. We appreciate the Amazin’ Mets Foundation and the New York Mets’ recognition of our work and are honored to be part of the incredible Mets community!

What if the data you already have could tell you more about your impact than you realized?

Our latest article in Forbes shares how Read Alliance found a new way to rigorously measure the impact of our one-to-one literacy tutoring.

By looking more closely at seven years of data we were already collecting, READ and our research partners identified a “natural experiment” within our existing program operations. The results showed that students receiving READ tutoring experienced more than half a grade level of additional growth compared with students who had not yet started tutoring.

For us, this is more than a research finding. It’s an opportunity to keep learning, strengthen our programs, and better understand the difference READ makes for young readers.
