Stay tuned for a busy weekend on the Lighthouse Guild channels!

This weekend, Lighthouse Guild is bringing a team of runners to Washington, D.C. for the Army Ten-Miler — a race that brings together over 35,000 runners including active-duty military, veterans, civilians, and wounded warriors.

The Lighthouse Guild team includes members of the Lighthouse Guild community and three blind veterans — Shawntina Gibson, Rob Sanchas, and Roosevelt Morring.

Every step this weekend represents our commitment to making technology accessible to everyone facing vision loss, and to our partnership with Meta to bring free Meta AI glasses to every blind veteran in the country.

Join us in wishing the team good luck. And stay tuned!

Over 100 years of impact in about a minute ⌛

October is Blindness Awareness Month, and we're proud to look back and recount the impact Lighthouse Guild has had on the blind community for over a century.

What began with two pioneering organizations committed to supporting people with vision loss grew into today's Lighthouse Guild, helping individuals by providing the care, community and technology to help people live, work, and shine.

Follow along to see where we're headed next. There are exciting things ahead!

Talk about a stacked lineup.

Seven members of the Lighthouse Guild community are trading New York for Tuscany as they represent Team USA with U.S. Blind Baseball Association - USBBA at the 2026 WBSC Blind Baseball International Cup!

We're cheering on Ed Plumacher, Kiana Glanton, Zach Ship, Janice Clarke, Teddy Hackett, Amanda Makson, and Edery Herrera as they head to Italy to compete.

Whether you have vision loss or not, sport, movement, and community are not extras — they are essential to well-being. At Lighthouse Guild, we are committed to expanding access to adaptive athletics experiences for people who are blind or have low vision.

Stay tuned for more — we're sending all the good vibes, lucky charms, and rally caps we can spare.

Let's hear it for Team USA in the comments! 👏

Meet Daria!

Daria runs our teen group, and we could not think of a better person for the job.

Why?

Daria has irl experience being a teen with vision loss. She was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at 17, along with 2 of her siblings.

Vision loss never stopped her from going after her dreams. She went to school for Psychology, Social Work, and Law. AND, her family runs an organization called Hope For Vision.

Daria runs an amazing Teen Group, and we want you to join! Call in and listen, talk, joke — it's your time. Nationwide and 100% free.

Teen Group starts in October. Space is limited. Sign up here: https://bit.ly/4h6Blrx

It's National Adult Services Week!

We can't wait to tell you about GuildCare.

GuildCare is our Adult Day Healthcare (ADHC) program open to adults with chronic health conditions who need some extra support during the day. Some people join us every day, others just a few times a week.

And the big deal: it's the ONLY Adult Day Healthcare Program in New York State that specializes in people with vision loss. There are daily activities, meals, music, and more.

(From our stories, you already know GuildCare is a blast.)

We have GuildCare programs in New York City, Albany, and Buffalo.

Meet Constance! ⭐

She grew up with us. At eight years old, she walked through our doors for the Young Explorer program — always full of imagination and ready to build something new.

She took drama classes, worked on art projects, and built lasting friendships. By the time she was a teenager, she'd found her people, her creativity, and her confidence in our Saturday Teen Program.

This summer, all of that groundwork led somewhere she never expected: an internship in the kitchen at the United Nations, through our Summer Pathways Program. She walked in unsure what to expect, and walked out having found a whole new passion.

Now a junior in high school with AP classes and college on the horizon, Constance is still figuring out exactly where she's headed — culinary arts, tech, media, maybe all three. But she's not in a rush.

"Take your time to find what truly makes you happy," she says.

We've watched her grow up. We can't wait to see where she goes next — and we're holding out hope she'll come back one day as a Tech Pals mentor, passing that same spirit on to the next generation. 💛
