AFFORDABLE HOUSING DOES NOT MEAN SUBSTANDARD HOUSING.
Affordability should never come at the expense of health and safety.
Research shows that plastic plumbing materials can degrade over time and release microplastics, VOCs, and chemical additives into drinking water — especially under heat, pressure, and long‑term disinfectant exposure. These same conditions can also undermine water‑management practices aimed at preventing Legionella growth in building water systems.
We cannot allow a tale of two codes — one standard for those with greater means and a lower, riskier standard for those with less.
Residents of affordable housing in NYC deserve the same protections as all other New Yorkers.

This past Saturday, Inside Sentry Kenny Vazquez and Members Jazmin Perez‑Carvente, Leonel Chapero, and Bill Kennedy volunteered at Cypress Hills Memorial Cemetery, helping place flags on the graves of more than 27,000 veterans ahead of Memorial Day.

Their time and effort helped honor those who served, and we appreciate their commitment to the community and to our veterans.

The U.S. House has passed the bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act — an important step toward ending the long delays workers face after voting to unionize. With first contracts taking an average of 458 days, too many workers are left in limbo while employers drag out negotiations.

The bill sets real deadlines: bargaining must begin within 10 days, mediation at 90 days, and binding arbitration if either side refuses to come to the table. Plumbers Local 1 has seen contractors stall and leave newly organized workers waiting, and these reforms are long overdue.

When workers choose a union, they shouldn’t wait years for a contract. This legislation helps ensure they won’t.
