What a great night at the New York Irish Center! ☘️

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Donegal Association of New York’s Trivia Night. There was plenty of friendly competition, a lot of laughs, and some impressive knowledge around the tables!

A special thank you to our Trivia Master, Kevin Cummings, who did a terrific job. Kevin came prepared with some great questions and kept everyone entertained throughout the night. We couldn’t have asked for a better host!

Congratulations to the McLaughlin Group, who took home first place and the gold medals! 🥇👏 And congratulations to all of our other winners, including our 50/50 winner.

Great company, great craic, and a great night for the Donegal Association of New York. Thanks to everyone who joined us! ☘️

Members of the Donegal Association of New York were proud to join the Irish community on Staten Island Sunday for the dedication of the Irish Famine Memorial and the unveiling of the first Global Irish Famine Way monument in the United States.

This ground is the final resting place of more than 8,000 Irish souls who fled the Great Hunger and died at the Marine Hospital Quarantine Station between 1845 and 1858, at the very gateway to the new life they had hoped to find in America.

A particularly moving moment came during the opening ceremony when Donegal Association member Seamus Fennessy, former Staff Sergeant with New York’s Fighting 69th Regiment, sang the United States National Anthem in Irish.

The Bronze Shoes now standing on Staten Island connect this sacred ground with the Global Irish Famine Way and with the story of the millions whose lives were forever changed by An Gorta Mór.

We were proud to be there as Donegal people, Irish Americans and descendants of those who made that journey, remembering those who never had the chance to complete theirs. May they never be forgotten. 🇮🇪🇺🇸

A Historic Day for Irish Remembrance in America 🇮🇪🇺🇸

Today at 2:00 p.m., Staten Island will become the first location in the United States to join the Global Irish Famine Way with the unveiling of its iconic Bronze Shoes.

The ceremony will honor the estimated 8,000 Irish Famine immigrants who were laid to rest on Staten Island during the Great Hunger, many at the Marine Hospital Quarantine Station in St. George, as well as those who died aboard ships before ever reaching America’s shores.

Irish Ambassador to the United States Geraldine Byrne Nason will join members of the Irish and Irish American community for this historic dedication.

We had a brilliant day at the Great Irish Fair in Brooklyn on Sunday. The bands and dancers were excellent, and we all loved the Thatch Cottage Pub! 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
