Damayan Migrant Workers Association

Damayan Migrant Workers Association Damayan is a grassroots organization in New York City of and for Filipino im/migrant workers and led by Filipino women domestic workers.

The DAMAYAN Migrant Workers Association, Inc. is a membership-based non-profit and tax-exempt institution which organizes, educates and advocates for domestic workers from the Philippines. DAMAYANยดs uniqueness comes from its being managed by domestic workers, who decide on programs, campaigns and other aspects of non-profit operations. c workers. Around 90% of our members are women. Our members vary in age, from mid-20s to some who are in their 60s. Our current annual rate of membership increase ranges from 50% to 100%. Through internships and exposures, DAMAYAN offers Filipino-Americans and others born in the U.S. the unique opportunity to learn about migrant life. This month, Damayan received a ๐ŸŒŸ Commendation Award ๐ŸŒŸ from New York City Comptroller, Mark Levine, during his Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration in Flushing, NY. We are honored that New York City recognized Damayanโ€™s work in uplifting the Asian community, specifically low-wage Filipino, migrant workers. We also congratulate our co-awardees: Sapna NYC , United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance-NYC , and CACF: Coalition for Asian American Children & Families ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‘

This Heritage Month, Damayan reaffirms our fight to advance the collective power of low-wage migrant workers, regardless of documentation status. We deserve to work and live free from all discrimination and exploitation. Power to all of our Asian American & Pacific Islander sibling organizations that advocate for justice and equity!

Fighting for Fairness Workers Discuss Labor Protections โœŠ

For the "Workers Bill of Rights Workshopโ€ last Saturday, we learned about critical government-mandated rights like Protected Time Off, sharing powerful personal experiences of workplace rights violations.

The day was filled with energy, featuring a special Mother's Day photobooth ๐Ÿ’, and concluded with a lively Zumba session! ๐Ÿ’ƒ We also held important discussions on current affairs in the Philippines and reviewed the results of the Tulungan survey.
Help us continue providing vital workshops and support for Filipino workers! Become a member or volunteer with Damayan today!

This May Day, we joined 20,000+ New Yorkers from Union Square to Washington Square Park to Foley Square, as we call for greater protections for workers who keep our country running.

May Day was born 140 years ago when workers struck for the 8-hour day. That fight lives on. For every Filipino migrant worker who builds this city, the struggle is the same: to be treated with respect, to earn a fair wage, to care for our families, and to have a voice.

We do not stand alone. Our union brothers and sisters, our neighbors, and millions who share this city's dream are with us.
To those who fought before us โ€” we honor you by continuing the work. Organize. Educate. Build power. Together, we are stronger. โœŠ
