REMEMBERING YOU, REMEMBERING US
Holding the Journey Before & After Mother Wit
The Mother Wit journey is also being held by Remembering You, Remembering Us, our virtual support space for people directly and indirectly impacted by adverse reproductive and birth experiences.
Before the three-day series, we gather on Thursday, October 8 from 7:30–8:30 PM ET. After Mother Wit, we return on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00–11:00 AM ET.
These gatherings give us somewhere to bring what we are carrying—to connect with others, identify resources and supports, and continue tending to what Mother Wit may surface.
October 8 | 7:30–8:30 PM ET | Zoom
October 24 | 10:00–11:00 AM ET | Zoom
FREE for the community. Separate registration required.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This month, we honor the lives, stories, and experiences of those impacted by breast cancer.

For Black and Brown women and birthing people, our health is shaped by more than what happens inside a doctor’s office. Access, bias, environment, stress, and the quality of care we receive all matter.

Health equity means creating systems where every person is seen, heard, believed, and supported throughout their entire journey.
And we continue working toward a future where every mother and birthing person can experience care rooted in dignity, safety, and belonging.

What does it look like when we create space to learn across cultures, share knowledge, and reimagine what maternal health can be?

The Global Exchange Initiative with ARIAH and Bumi Sehat Foundation is rooted in cultural exchange, mutual respect, shared learning, and the practical application of Indigenous and community-based maternal health knowledge.

Through virtual learning, relationship building, and an immersive experience in Bali, participants will have the opportunity to learn alongside Bumi Sehat’s midwives and community partners while exploring culturally rooted, climate-informed, trauma-responsive, and holistic approaches to care.
But this work is not simply about the experience itself. It is about what we carry forward — bringing new knowledge, relationships, and perspectives back into our communities and institutions to help shape meaningful change in maternal and reproductive health.

As we reflect on our experience, we invite you to listen, learn, and consider what it could mean to be part of this journey.

Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day
Join Our Healing Space & Global Wave of Light Ceremony
5:30 – 8:00 PM EST | On Multiple Virtual Platforms | FREE
On October 15, Mother Wit invites individuals, families and communities impacted directly and indirectly by pregnancy and infant loss into a virtual space created for healing, storytelling, remembrance and connection.
We know that grief does not look one way. Some people speak. Some listen. Some cry. Some celebrate the life that was here. Some are still discovering language for what happened. This gathering creates room for the many ways we carry love, grief, memory and loss.
From 5:30–7:00 PM EST, we will gather, in community, for an opening ceremony, healing experiences and community storytelling.
Then, from 7:00–8:00 PM EST, our gathering will move into the Wave of Light. At 7:00 PM, people around the world illuminate candles and lights in remembrance of pregnancies and babies lost. As 7:00 PM arrives across different time zones, the light continues to move around the planet.
Mother Wit will become part of that global movement of remembrance. We will receive the light, hold it together and symbolically pass and share it with communities across the globe. Our individual lights become part of something much larger—a worldwide expression of remembrance, solidarity and love.
You may participate from wherever you are. Bring a candle, lantern or another source of light, and join us as we remember together.

Maternal health is shaped by more than what happens in the delivery room. It is shaped by the policies, systems, and decisions that determine whether families can access safe, respectful, and equitable care.

Advocacy means using our voices to push for change — expanding access to quality care, investing in community-based birth workers, protecting reproductive healthcare and patient rights, listening to the experiences of mothers and birthing people, and holding healthcare systems accountable.

Every voice matters in building a healthcare system where every mother and birthing person is heard, respected, and safe.

Safe care means more than preventing medical errors. It means creating healthcare systems where mothers and birthing people are heard, respected, informed, and taken seriously—especially when they know something doesn’t feel right.

From pregnancy through birth and postpartum, communication matters. Listening matters. Access matters. Accountability matters.

Patient safety asks us to look at the systems surrounding care and ask:

Are patients being heard?
Are their concerns being taken seriously?
Do they have access to the care and resources they need?
Are we creating environments where every person can feel safe advocating for themselves?

As we reflect on last weeks World Patient Safety Day, let’s carry these questions forward—not just for one day, but throughout the year.

Because maternal health is patient safety. And patient safety is everyone’s responsibility.
