Our long-term care system is already struggling with staffing shortages, closures and accountability. Now, as the number of older Americans grows, nursing home beds are becoming harder to find.

This is why reform cannot wait. We must strengthen protections, improve transparency and accountability, and build a long-term care system that is ready for the generation that will soon depend on it.

As the oldest baby boomers turn 80, researchers worry there won’t be enough room in nursing facilities for a rapidly graying nation.
