The New Orleans Memorial Stair Climb mourns the loss of Operator/Firefighter Shane Hirstius and his beloved fiancée, Leah Fonte.

They will forever be remembered on our Fallen Hero Wall.

Our prayers are with their families and Shane’s brothers and sisters in the fire service.

Rest easy, Shane. We’ll take it from here. 💔🙏🏻

A HUGE THANK YOU to Mike Murat and Shannon Atkinson for once again being there to capture our Memorial Event through your incredible photography.

These aren’t just amazing photos, they tell our story. They capture the emotion, the sacrifice, the brotherhood, the tears, the smiles, and most importantly, WHY we do what we do.

Every step we take, every floor we climb, and every name we remember is about honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice and making sure their stories are never forgotten.

Shannon and Mike, THANK YOU for giving us these memories and helping us tell the story of our fallen heroes through your lens. Your time, talent, and heart mean more than you know.

We climb for those who can’t.
We walk in silence so they are never forgotten.
We remember. We honor. We never forget.

Thank you both for being such an important part of our Memorial family!

Tonight, as we get ready to wake up to September 11, 2026, take a moment to think about the men and women who went to bed on September 10, 2001.

None of them knew they wouldn’t live past 11 o’clock the next morning.

They went to work that day expecting nothing more than another shift. Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, EMS, and so many others simply doing what they had sworn to do protect and serve.

Then everything changed.

They ran toward the danger while others ran away. They climbed the stairs. They entered the buildings. They searched for people they didn’t even know. They gave everything they had to save others.

And so many never came home.

Tomorrow, September 11, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost and, especially, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, their names still matter. Their families still matter. Their sacrifice still matters.

Take a moment tomorrow to remember. Say their names. Tell their stories. And thank a first responder.

🇺🇸 25 years later. Still climbing. Still remembering. NEVER FORGET. 🇺🇸
