Are you a Louisiana parent? Do you have a child under age 5? If so, please take a few minutes to fill out the . Your responses will help policymakers better understand the child care needs of families with young children across the state and allow them to advocate for policies that best address those needs.

We are partnering with the Louisiana Department of Education and the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children to conduct a survey of families across the state with young children under the age of 5 to better understand the needs of families and the state of child care.

Last week, we welcomed Dr. Amy Grattan from the Council for Exceptional Children for two days of training to support early childhood directors, our Professional Development team, and our City Seats team in strengthening inclusive practices and better meeting the unique needs of diverse learners.

On the first day, Dr. Grattan facilitated “What’s Next? A Leader’s Guide to Developmental Concerns and Inclusive Systems,” engaging directors in meaningful conversations and practical strategies around early intervention systems, objective documentation, positive family partnerships, and visual supports. During the second day, Dr. Grattan held a training for our team to prepare them to facilitate three new workshops she developed in collaboration with our Professional Development team.

We’re grateful for this partnership and our shared commitment to equipping early childhood professionals with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to help every child learn, grow, and thrive.

Applications are closing soon for the 2027 cohort of our Leaders in Teaching (LIT) Institute!

The LIT Institute is a six-month professional learning program designed for experienced educators working in Type III centers in the New Orleans ECE community.

It develops leadership and mentoring skills and through a mix of in-person and virtual meetings, provides collaboration and peer support. The Institute’s signature final project offers real-world opportunities for participants to gain experience in planning and overseeing actionable change in their centers.

Last Saturday, our Professional Development Senior Specialists, Joette Timmerman and Denea Laffoon, represented Agenda for Children at the Washington Parish Early Childhood Network "Reach for the Stars" Family Engagement Summit at the Louisiana Castle in Franklinton, LA.

Our team had a wonderful time connecting with local families and leading a fun, hands-on activity that supports:

🎨 Creativity & imagination
🧩 Fine motor skills & hand-eye coordination
💬 Language development

We also loved chatting with parents about how simple everyday activities create great opportunities to communicate with their children and discover how much children learn through play!
