It’s just been a few months since the Public Service Commission voted 5-0 to approve an independent administrator to make sure that energy efficiency programs work for the benefit of ratepayers. But the utility lobby wants to gut the plan before it starts. Entergy and Cleco don’t want accountability – that’s why we need Commissioner Jean-Paul Coussan to hold the line on an energy efficiency program that helps lower our electric bills and increase our standard of living.

Utility companies have profited for 13 years by stalling energy efficiency programs and delaying rate reductions for Louisiana families. Finally, last September, the LPSC approved and funded an independent administrator to oversee the state’s energy efficiency program. This groundbreaking initiative is the first of its kind in the Southeastern U.S., designed to reduce energy usage and lower bills for homes and businesses statewide. But now, Commissioner Eric Skrmetta and the utility lobby are working to stall the process yet again. Their efforts threaten to waste more taxpayer dollars and grow utility company profits at the expense of hardworking families. Louisiana families fought too hard for this progress to let it slip away. Protect your energy savings! Demand accountability and transparency from your Commissioner. Louisiana families deserve better. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/no-delays-energy-accountability-and-savings?source=AHGFBorganic

It is clear that Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has no interest in providing any immediate relief to Louisiana homeowners struggling with the insurance crisis. He continues to fight against SB484, a REAL insurance reform bill which has the support of the full Senate and would reduce premiums for homeowners who make meaningful investments in their homes. Temple has already passed laws that allow insurance companies to drop loyal policy holders, raise rates without review, and limit lawsuits against insurance companies that break the law. It’s time Baton Rogue politicians remember who they work for and actually do something to help homeowners. We are calling on all Louisiana lawmakers to put the people above the insurance companies by standing up to Tim Temple. Hate the giveaways to the insurance industry? Tell your reps in Baton Rouge: pass REAL reforms that would lower costs – pass SB484 which funds roof replacement AND lowers costs by 20-30% for homeowners who fortify their roofs against storms. It takes just a minute to send a letter here: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/houseinscmtee-pass-sb484?source=social Gabe Firment, District 22 State Representative Phillip DeVillier
