Advancing best management practices on working lands across the Valley is at the very heart of the Alliance’s mission. Former board member, Lee Good, leads by example, implementing practices that benefit both his livestock and the neighboring Linville Creek and the wildlife that depend on it. Commitment like his drives our vision of a Shenandoah Valley sustained by thriving farms and healthy forests. Thank you, Lee, for your dedication and for sharing your expertise with the community!

The Valley's dark night skies are incredible for stargazing and essential for our local wildlife! Join us and partners THIS Thursday, Sept 10 @ 5 PM at Samuels Public Library in Front Royal for a free presentation on light pollution & dark sky conservation with Laura Greenleaf🌌✨

Do you want to get involved with preserving our night skies? Join us for a presentation by Laura Greenleaf on DarkSky International's Virginia chapter and their efforts to preserve our night sky and lower light pollution across the state! 🌕🌟

This presentation will explore the causes and consequences of light pollution with a focus on wildlife and ecology, explain the basics of responsible outdoor lighting, deliver good news about nightscape conservation, and equip the audience to bring back the night beginning at home. Because every day needs a night.

Laura Greenleaf has led the Virginia chapter of DarkSky International (formerly the International Dark-Sky Association) since 2013. She has delivered approximately fifty presentations, supported advocates in their own communities, aided Dark Sky Park efforts, and assisted policy initiatives. She coordinates the Virginia Responsible Streetlighting Coalition to advocate for better products and practices in Dominion Energy’s lighting division.

Our staff recently gathered in Waynesboro, Virginia, for our annual staff retreat—a day focused on learning, connection, and team building. We explored proposed conservation areas and took part in group activities at Sunset Park, gaining valuable insights throughout the day from Dwayne Jones (Parks and Recreation Director) and Stephanie Seltzer (Parks Project Manager). We deeply appreciate their ongoing hard work and dedication to shaping and preserving Wayneboro’s public spaces.
