Fighting for your right to practice your faith fearlessly.

The Sikh Coalition is a community-based organization that works towards the realization of civil and human rights for all people. In particular, we work towards a world where Sikhs may freely practice and enjoy their faith while fostering strong relations with their local community wherever they may be. We pursue our mission by:

* Providing direct legal services to persons whose civil or huma

n rights are violated;
* Advocating for law and policies that are respectful of fundamental rights;
* Promoting appreciation for diversity through education; and
* Fostering civic engagement in order to promote local community empowerment

We have a full-time staff of 11 who work out of offices in New York City, Fremont, California, and Washington DC.

Udaari, an organization working to empower Sikh youth, is hosting the Har Maidan Fateh Retreat next month!

This event is a deep dive to help high schoolers prepare for applying to college. Over four days, students will attend workshops focusing on all parts of the admissions process, including academics, activities, and essays. They will also work one-on-one with Sikh college student mentors from Harvard, Stanford, USC, Princeton and more to build a four-year roadmap and actionable one-year plan. Finally, they'll learn more about different career pathways through conversations with Sikh role models—including via a deep-dive on the philosophy of Har Maidan Fateh, with both historical examples and modern day applications.

The retreat is overnight from August 8-11 in Sacramento, California. 30 spots are open to rising high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Learn more below, and apply at https://www.udaari.org/retreat

LEGAL UPDATE: Last month, the Sikh Coalition submitted a Habeas petition on behalf of a Sikh commercial truck driver who was detained by ICE at a truck weigh-station. In the petition, we and our pro bono co-counsel raised novel arguments challenging the coordination between local and state agencies and ICE.

So far, every one of our Habeas filings has been on behalf of a Sikh trucker we believe to be wrongfully detained. Our team continues to conduct Habeas intakes and explore broader ways to challenge ICE and their targeting of truck drivers.

“The Sikh Coalition remains committed to elevating the legacy of 1984, and honoring those whose lives were lost and forever changed by the violence, through our continued advocacy for the civil rights of Sikhs and others. As vulnerable groups within our U.S.-based sangat remain at risk from discriminatory policy at home, transnational repression from abroad, and dehumanizing anti-Sikh rhetoric from all sides, we remain committed to fighting for a future that honors the past through both accountability and security.”

Today, we join Sikhs around the world in commemorating the 42-year anniversary of Operation Blue Star. Read more via today's blog: https://www.sikhcoalition.org/blog/2026/remembering-1984-8/

Over the past three days, we have been excited to share the Community Action Projects created by our three 2026 Act To Change Youth Ambassadors: Eesha Nachnani, Akshan Ranasinghe, and Ethan Su. You can find their digital storytelling campaigns, community resources, interviews, presentations, and papers across our other social media platforms, including Instagram, BlueSky, and Twitter.

Thank you to these three students for their partnership with the Sikh Coalition, and to our allies at Act to Change for continuing to organize the Youth Ambassador program!

Last week, Community Development Director Aasees Kaur joined faith leaders and organizers from across the mid-Atlantic region at the “Countering Hate, Cultivating Joy” Summit in Charleston, West Virginia. Hosted by Interfaith Alliance and the West Virginia Faith Collective, the gathering created space for meaningful conversations on combating hate, confronting white Christian nationalism, and building stronger interfaith solidarity rooted in justice, dignity, and community care.

We were honored to contribute to the summit’s closing interfaith ceremony by sharing Sikh wisdom on collective resilience and our shared responsibility to stand against fear and division. As hate continues to impact communities across the country, we remain committed to building relationships and coalitions that protect pluralism and strengthen belonging for all.
