Ann Wright: "Nineteen years ago... during the Bush administration’s Axis of Evil regime and calls for attacks on Iran from members of Congress including “Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran (to the tune of Beach Boys song Barbara Ann)” recitation by Senator John McCain, I wrote an article entitled “An Appeal to Conscience to Those Who WOULD Bomb Iran.” Now almost two decades and four presidential administrations later... the article is virtually the same, except that U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy pilots have now actually dropped bunker busting, ‘smart” bombs on Iran’s nuclear program facilities and according to Secretary of Defense Hegseth, the U.S. has successfully targeted with bombs and missiles over 1700 locations in Iran, including civilian infrastructure of roads, bridges and water treatment plants as well as military targets."

Brody says that the U.S. government’s rejection of the ICC’s jurisdiction is not about “American sovereignty,” as the Trump administration claims, but about “impunity,” for both U.S. allies, like Israel, and the U.S. itself.

DAWN (Democracy for the Arab World Now) and Taxpayers Alliance Against Genocide, on July 15, are announcing a lawsuit against the Trump administration to seek a court order allowing them to turn over a dossier of war crimes and genocide evidence to the International Criminal Court in Brussels. Under a Trump executive order, it is illegal for US citizens to communicate with the ICC; the federal government can punish people who provide research and evidence to the international prosecutor for a full investigation by freezing their bank accounts and credit.

The letter is signed by international law experts across the United States, including senior professors; leaders of prominent international law associations, non-governmental organizations, and legal clinics; former government legal advisors; and military law experts and former Judge Advocates General (JAGs).

While we always know the exact number of Americans killed in these wars, we never have an accurate tally of how many people we have killed–not only because it is often hard to get the data, but also because the US systematically downplays civilian casualties and treats their lives as less valuable.
