What a joy it’s been to bring Mozart’s Così fan tutte to life at La MaMa. Thank you to our entire company — every singer, orchestra musician, director, designer, stage manager, and crew member — for the artistry, humor, and heart you brought to this production night after night.

Critics agreed it landed. TheaterScene called it “a stirring reminder that great opera continues to evolve whenever imaginative artists approach it with curiosity, intelligence, and love.” StageFiend praised our creative team’s understanding of the opera and its bold, “gender-balanced take.” The Theatre Times wrote that “the spirit of the production was courteous and generous, exactly, perhaps, what Mozart intended.”

What an incredible few weeks it’s been. Thank you to our entire company — every singer, orchestra musician, director, designer, stage manager, and crew member — for the extraordinary hard work, artistry, and heart you poured into The Tempest at La MaMa. This production came alive because of the talent and dedication of everyone involved, on stage and behind the scenes alike.

The reviews are in, and they’re a testament to what you built together. The National Herald wrote that Teatro Grattacielo’s “greatest achievement lies in treating a contemporary opera with the same seriousness afforded to an established masterpiece.” Theatre Beyond Broadway called it “a genuinely thoughtful dialogue between past and present.”

What happens when the curtain falls and the distance between artists and audiences disappears?

At Beyond Opera: Law of Desire After Dark, the stage became a place for celebration, connection, and community. Professional artists performed alongside student singers from the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts’ Opera Ensemble, participating through our Creative Tableaux program. Opera met Broadway, different generations shared the same space, and our audiences became part of the evening rather than simply observing it.

This is what Teatro Grattacielo is working to build.

For us, making opera accessible is not only about ticket prices. It is about creating an environment in which people feel welcomed, included, and free to experience the art in their own way. It means opening professional spaces to young artists, bringing together people with different experiences, and allowing opera to move beyond its traditional boundaries.

This party was joyful, unexpected, and full of life—but it was also an expression of who we are as a company. We believe opera belongs to everyone, and that community is not something surrounding the work. Community is part of the work.

A personal thank-you from our Stefanos Koroneos to everyone who joined us at La MaMa for The Tempest and Così fan tutte.

Whether this was your first opera, your first performance with Teatro Grattacielo, or one of many evenings with us, we are grateful that you were there.

We believe opera should be adventurous without being inaccessible, and we would love to hear about your experience—what made you feel welcomed, what was helpful, and what we could do better.

Watch the message, share your feedback through the link in our bio, and join us again in November at The Flea for Jefferson Lives! and Puccini’s extraordinary masterpiece, Suor Angelica.
