Beneath the arches of the Brooklyn Bridge, there are spaces that once hummed with the life of downtown Manhattan — commerce, community, daily rhythm. Then, for decades, silence. This Saturday, May 2nd, we help bring them back to life. 🎶
The Gotham Park Block Party is one of downtown Manhattan’s most vibrant community celebrations — where Chinatown, the Bowery, and lower Manhattan come together, side by side, to share in something bigger than any one of us. This year, Teatro Grattacielo is proud to be part of that gathering, bringing opera into the mix — not as a formal, distant art form, but as a living, breathing part of the neighborhood’s story.
Join us at 1:10 PM for a performance featuring mezzo-soprano Chantelle Grant( , baritone Eliam Ramos Fuentes , and pianist Francisco Miranda , singing music by Margaret Bonds, Anthony Davis, Stephen Flaherty, and Kurt Weill — repertoire rooted in themes of social justice and the human experience.
Behind this performance: Stefanos Koroneos , our General and Artistic Director, Hilary Baboukis , production coordinator David Santiago Board Member and Cultural Outreach Officer.
This is opera for everyone. No dress code, no tickets, no barriers — just powerful voices, open air, and a community coming together. 🗽
We are deeply grateful to our supporters: New York State Council on the Arts , NY State Senator Erik Bottcher , and NYC Cultural Affairs for making this possible.
