Teatro Grattacielo and Camerata Bardi International Academy are proud to present the opening night of Voices of a Nation — a concert series conceived in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

Drawing from the full breadth of the American musical tradition, this program traces the arc of a nation through its music: from the folk songs of the frontier to the operatic stage, from the immigrant experience to the grandeur of Broadway. Works by Irving Berlin, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Gian Carlo Menotti, and others form the foundation of an evening designed to honor the richness, complexity, and enduring spirit of the American story.

Performers:
Natasha Scheuble, soprano
Bryan McLary, baritone .mcclary.baritone
Francisco Miranda, piano

Program conceived and created by Enzo Pizzimenti

At Teatro Grattacielo, cultural outreach is not a side project — it is part of the DNA of who we are. Through programs like Creative Tableaux, we believe in bringing art directly into communities, creating spaces where creativity, conversation, and human connection can flourish across generations.

We are deeply grateful to our board member and Cultural Outreach Officer, David Santiago, for his continued dedication, generosity, and vision. An artist, designer, and philanthropist, David recently led a special class on color and design at the Sunset Reach Retirement Center in Brooklyn, engaging residents through discussion, imagination, and artistic exploration.

These moments remind us that opera and the arts can extend far beyond the stage — becoming multidisciplinary, educational, and deeply personal experiences that connect people through creativity.

Thank you, David, for the care, passion, and artistry you continue to bring to Teatro Grattacielo and to the communities we serve.

BIG NEWS: We are beyond thrilled to share that Teatro Grattacielo has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the world premiere of our new multidisciplinary chamber opera, Jefferson Lives!!

As Mary Anne Carter, chairman of the NEA, stated: “As we celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary this year, it is a moment to recognize the important role the arts continue to play in our lives, communities, and heritage.”

We couldn’t agree more. Honoring the America250 celebration, this new commission explores the American Revolution not as a monument, but as an unresolved human reckoning. Moving fluidly between dialogue, music, and cinematic projections, it is a psychological journey from thought into action.

Mark your calendars:
• World Premiere: November 7 & 8 at The Flea in NYC, led by conductor Saverio Alfieri.
• Developmental Workshop: This November in Tucson, AZ, in collaboration with Polyhymnia.

Beneath the arches of the Brooklyn Bridge, there are spaces that once hummed with the life of downtown Manhattan — commerce, community, daily rhythm. Then, for decades, silence. This Saturday, May 2nd, we help bring them back to life. 🎶

The Gotham Park Block Party is one of downtown Manhattan’s most vibrant community celebrations — where Chinatown, the Bowery, and lower Manhattan come together, side by side, to share in something bigger than any one of us. This year, Teatro Grattacielo is proud to be part of that gathering, bringing opera into the mix — not as a formal, distant art form, but as a living, breathing part of the neighborhood’s story.

Join us at 1:10 PM for a performance featuring mezzo-soprano Chantelle Grant( , baritone Eliam Ramos Fuentes , and pianist Francisco Miranda , singing music by Margaret Bonds, Anthony Davis, Stephen Flaherty, and Kurt Weill — repertoire rooted in themes of social justice and the human experience.

Behind this performance: Stefanos Koroneos , our General and Artistic Director, Hilary Baboukis , production coordinator David Santiago Board Member and Cultural Outreach Officer.
This is opera for everyone. No dress code, no tickets, no barriers — just powerful voices, open air, and a community coming together. 🗽

We are deeply grateful to our supporters: New York State Council on the Arts , NY State Senator Erik Bottcher , and NYC Cultural Affairs for making this possible.
