Fishing Partnership Navigators can assist residents of MA and RI in accessing affordable health insurance coverage through their state's marketplace and Medicaid.

👉 OE for Massachusetts runs October 23rd through January 23rd
👉 OE for Rhode Island runs November 1st through January 31st

Whether you are applying for health insurance for the first time or would like to explore your plan options, now is the best time to contact us for help.

Rhode Island fishermen: join us in Point Judith on November 5-6 for two days of FREE, hands-on safety training designed specifically for commercial fishermen and crew.

Day One: Safety & Survival Training - Build and strengthen essential emergency response skills through practical training in firefighting, survival suits, life rafts, flares, EPIRBs, emergency communications, and more.

As an added benefit, commercial fishermen who complete Day One are eligible for a 50% rebate on a lifejacket purchase following training.

Day Two: Drill Conductor Certification - Learn how to put these skills into practice aboard your own vessel, lead effective emergency drills, and build the teamwork needed when emergencies happen at sea. Participants who complete both days earn AMSEA Drill Conductor Certification, meeting U.S. Coast Guard requirements under 46 CFR 28.270(c).

Our first Safety & Drill Conductor training of the season is one week away in : October 7–8!

This training gives commercial fishermen hands-on practice to better understand how to manage emergencies at sea, from abandon ship and flooding to fire and man overboard. Completing both days of the course qualifies you as a drill conductor for your vessel.

As one fisherman shared after a recent class: "Reminds us of the safety that should be in place on all boats. We get complacent."

FP Navigators will be holding open-office hours on October 1 for fishing families in from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Stop by our office at 894 Main Street for health insurance assistance and to take advantage of other resources and support services we offer. This year, through the begins October 23, 2026 and runs through January 23, 2027 – come by our Chatham office on Thursday to learn more about the application process and renewing your coverage for 2027.

Our Navigators will also be hosting dental clinics and community health days this fall and winter in MA ports. Navigators will be available to assist with health insurance-related questions in addition to offering health interventions from partner organizations. See below for dates and locations and call your nearest Navigator for more information or to make an appointment.

Fishermen are First Responders at sea.

When someone gets hurt offshore, help can be hours away. The crew is the first line of care.

FP's course is designed to train fishermen with life-saving practical skills and knowledge to assess and treat injured and sick crewmembers on fishing vessels in an offshore environment before emergency personnel arrive.

✅ Fishermen who complete this course will become certified in Adult First Aid/CPR/AED
