Last weekend, LUCE and our solidarity partners held 24 hours of remembrance, resistance, and justice outside of the Massachusetts State House.
We began Friday at noon with a powerful opening program led by Emmanuel Damas’s brother, alongside community members directly impacted by the recent surge in immigration enforcement.
Throughout the evening and into the night, our community gathered in prayer, song, poetry, reflection, and collective care. Together, we created a powerful vigil filled with art, flowers, letters, and offerings to honor all those who have lost their lives under this administration and to demand that there be no more names.
In closing, we heard powerful testimony from immigrant leaders who call on other immigrant community members to set aside fear to fight for a better future.
Thank you to every LUCE hub volunteer and solidarity partner who helped sustain the vigil around the clock, including AFT Massachusetts, Boston Teachers Union, SEIU 509, Boston DSA, and the many other organizations and community members who stood with us.
We mourn every day. We organize every day. We will continue fighting until every person in Massachusetts and beyond can live with dignity, safety, and freedom.
This is what community looks like.
