The log for our mishoon (dugout canoe) project has arrived! 🌳🛶

This approximately 107-year-old log came to us from a tree in Ware, MA and it’s about to begin an incredible transformation.

Starting October 19, local Indigenous artists and educators Hartman Deetz and Annawon Weeden will use traditional burn-and-scrape techniques to transform the log into a mishoon—connecting traditional Indigenous boatbuilding, local history, and our waterfront community.

The season's not over yet! 🍂💨

Fall Open Sail and Windsurf Open Sail are keeping kids on the water well past summer. The fall breeze had our tandem board ripping across the cove. This Fall has given us steady wind and some of the best sailing of the year, and we're making sure our young sailors get every bit of it.

We were so fortunate again this summer to have had books to give out from Book Rich Environments, a collaboration between the New Bedford Housing Authority and the New Bedford Free Public Library with books supplied by the National Book Foundation and support from the New Bedford Birth to 3rd Grade Partnership. We had a great time this summer on our weekly field trips! These are optional experiences that kids can choose to participate in each week after our regular program day ends. Thanks to everyone who hosted us and to the Greater New Youth Alliance and Sen. Mark Montigny who helped support the series!
