Some numbers worth knowing. Clients who work with Operation Hope see their credit scores rise an average of 41 points. Their savings grow by over a thousand dollars. Their debt drops by nearly two thousand. And every bit of that coaching is free.

Every business has an origin story.

This story starts in 2006 with a no-show. Darci Gibbons was still in school when her father, who ran a construction company, called her in a bind. The subcontractor he had hired to landscape a property near Opry Mills had not shown up. Did she want to do it?

She said yes. Then she bought a stack of books, taught herself the work, and finished the job.

That one job became Dreamscape Landscape Services.

For the next fifteen years, Darci did the work, and did it well, mostly as a subcontractor. She was the one on the job site making someone else's contract look good. Capable, busy, and quietly certain there was more she was ready for.

Meeting families where they are is an important part of expanding access to opportunity.

Today, Donnie Swift, NBIC’s Program & Community Manager, represented our team at Maplewood High School’s Cluster Day, connecting with parents and families from elementary through high school.

Through NBIC’s Future Ready digital skills initiative, supported by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, Donnie shared information about practical digital skills, entrepreneurship, business resources, and pathways to economic mobility.

Whether someone is exploring a business idea, strengthening an existing business, preparing for the changing workplace, or simply seeking resources to move forward, we want families to know that support is available.

We appreciate Maplewood High School for creating space for families to connect with organizations and resources that can support their long term growth.

NBIC is showing up where relationships are built and opportunities are shared.

Today, our team member Donnie Swift joined Brenda Odom of Ukno Catering, an NBIC graduate, at the Music City Center Food & Beverage Summit.

The summit brought together farmers, producers, distributors, and food and beverage vendors to learn about procurement opportunities with Music City Center and Sodexo Live!, business certifications, risk management, and resources available across Tennessee.

We appreciate Music City Center and its partners for continuing to create spaces where small businesses can learn, connect, and better position themselves for contracting opportunities.

At NBIC, we believe business growth happens when entrepreneurs have access to the right information, relationships, and opportunities.

Juneteenth is a day to pause and reflect on freedom, on how far it has come, and on the work it still asks of all of us.

Freedom has never been a single moment. It is carried forward by people who keep showing up, keep building, and keep making room for those who come next. That quiet, steady work is something we see every day in the entrepreneurs and partners who make this community what it is.

So today we reflect, we give thanks, and we recommit to the work ahead.
