Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

On this Memorial Day, MCBA pauses to reflect on their sacrifice and express our deepest gratitude. Their legacy reminds us of the importance of unity, dedication, and service...values we strive to uphold both on and off the field.

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” John F. Kennedy

Proud to introduce Team Michiana — the incredible group of music industry advocates heading to Washington, D.C. on May 13 for the 20th annual NAMM Advocacy Fly-In!

This year, our team represents Indiana and Michigan as we walk the halls of Congress alongside 100+ delegates from all 50 states — making the case for the 50 million students who deserve access to music education.

Music education isn't a nice-to-have — it's essential to preparing students for the future workforce. This week, we're bringing that message directly to Capitol Hill.

Follow along as we advocate for federal funding for music education and support for U.S. music products businesses.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Marlene Miller, a true icon whose influence on the marching arts spanned more than half a century.

As the matriarch of FJM — Fred J. Miller Inc., Marlene was more than a partner to DCI; she was a visionary performer, instructor, and designer for the likes of the Miller Blackhawks and Miamisburg High School. A champion of Drum Corps International and its performing corps, her dedication to the marching arts was unparalleled, spending decades shaping the experience of thousands of marching musicians and color guard performers, leaving an immeasurable impact on the activity we love.

Our hearts are with the Miller family and the entire FJM team as we honor a lifetime of service and inspiration.

The MCBA Board of Directors have approved new rules for the upcoming 2026 season and will implement them immediately:

1. Director Step Limit Rule:
Any director exceeding 12,000 steps during a performance (as tracked by their smartwatch) will receive a 0.5 penalty for “Excessive Sideline Cardio.” Judges reserve the right to request a screenshot.

2. The “One More Time” Clause:
Rehearsal reps are now capped at 3 “one more times.” A fourth attempt must be verbally justified in a complete sentence explaining what will magically improve.

3. Prop Trailer Reality Check:
If your props require:
- More than 2 pickup trucks
- A forklift
- Or a parent with a CDL license
Directors must now also submit a written explanation and dissertation entitled: “Is This Worth It?”

4. Front Ensemble Cart Speed Limit:
All pit carts must maintain a safe and reasonable speed. Any cart achieving “downhill momentum of doom” will be assessed for reckless endangerment and the band parent will be put in the penalty box (a.k.a the endzone).

We look forward to an amazing 2026 season and know that these new rules will elevate the experience for all!
