When a friend first told David McCall about Goodwill’s job programs, he was looking for a real change and a chance to build a meaningful career. He decided to enroll in the Customer Care program, a move that would ultimately reshape his future. For David, the absolute highlight of the experience was his instructor, LaTonya Burks. Her hands-on teaching methods and engaging curriculum gave David exactly what he needed for his next journey in the workforce. He locked in, paid close attention every day, and put in the hard work to make sure he absorbed everything being taught.
Today, that dedication has paid off. David is working as a receptionist at Dental Dreams, a role where he gets to interact with patients every single day and handle the daily hustle of the office. Stepping into a completely new field can be intimidating, but David felt ready from day one because he could immediately put his classroom skills to work and see positive results.
This experience didn't just land David employment; it completely changed the way he sees himself. He credits LaTonya and the Goodwill staff, including his THRIVE Career Coach, Anthony Rickley, for handing him the tools to succeed. David feels well-equipped for his field, and that shows in his work. Now thriving in his new role, David has become a passionate advocate for Goodwill, telling people all the time about the opportunities Goodwill offers and the genuine chance to make a real life change if you just put your best foot forward and take it seriously.
