The Block

The Block The Block is a simple, accessible, inspirational space where honest music can happen—not to you, but with you.

A place where music pushes the boundaries of tradition and expectation and encourages investigation. Concerts at The Block will include an intriguing, cross-pollinated mix of music that can be intimate or explosive, but always entertaining. From timpanists who perform on cardboard boxes to klezmer-meets-Bollywood with a splash of bluegrass to jazz and Broadway influenced cabaret performances . The

Block is located on the second floor of 360 W. Western Avenue in an 1800 square foot space with flexible seating on two levels for approximately 148 audience members.

🎶 Two Incredible Trombone Concerts This Week at The Block! 🎶

We’re excited to share two special partner events as part of the Third Coast Trombone Retreat—a week-long immersive experience bringing top trombone talent from across the country to the shores of Lake Michigan.

✨ Thursday Afternoon- June 12, 2 pm
Los Angeles Philharmonic Recital featuring David Rejano (Principal Trombone, LA Phil), Liz Ames (piano), and Matthew Vaughn (Co-Principal Trombone, Philadelphia Orchestra). Enjoy works by Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Juan Colomer, and more.

✨ Saturday Afternoon- June 16, 2 pm
Philadelphia Orchestra Recital featuring Matthew Vaughn (Co-Principal Trombone, Philadelphia Orchestra) and Liz Ames (piano).
Program includes music by Michigan’s own Susan Mutter, Gerald Finzi, Ferdinand David, and Jeff Tyzik.
