We started the week off strong with our Manufacturers Roundtable!

We had the pleasure of hearing from Darryl Todd from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation about how Muskegon County businesses can be supported by the state for retention, expansion and workforce development.

Developer Day ✅

Yesterday we had the pleasure of showcasing industrial and residential development opportunities around Muskegon County to developers and builders from across the region. It was a great day of educating, networking and showcasing all the exciting things happening in our community!

A huge thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, Erhardt Construction for helping make this event possible! And thank you to our Hard Hat Sponsor, Lakewood Construction for their support!

Thank you to our municipal and development partners for your leadership and insight into the projects we got to tour.

The future is bright for all of Muskegon County and we are excited to continue building great things together.

Muskegon has so much momentum!

For years, Jon Rooks would bring potential buyers to tour his lakefront developments in Muskegon, but the pitch would start to fall flat as they drove past the hulking gravesites of past industrial uses, like the 123-acre Sappi Paper Mill site and former Shaw Walker Furniture Co. factory.

Rooks, the founder of Parkland Properties, is now redeveloping both sites himself. The projects are part of a building boom that is bringing new life to the blight that defined Muskegon’s waterfront for a generation.

Large-scale developments along Muskegon Lake that would add more than 3,000 housing units to the city are making serious progress that’s allowing officials to envision the next iteration of the city’s downtown.

The city’s downtown core has gone through extreme developmental highs and low points since it was first built up in the early 20th century. The city of Muskegon has a population of 37,287, with a downtown fronting Muskegon Lake, which feeds out to Lake Michigan.

Downtown Muskegon faces another inflection point right now, driven by new private investment throughout the county and massive, mixed-use projects along the lakeshore.
