During Older Americans Month, we recognize older adults who are caregivers—quietly showing up every day for the people they love. At Senior Resources, we offer caregiving programs and supports that help caregivers care for others and themselves. Because no one should have to do it alone.

We have Caregiver Support Groups happening every week in person and virtual. Please visit our website to learn more: https://seniorresourceswmi.org/caregivers/

Sometimes the impact of volunteering shows up in the most unexpected places.

Recently, program staff met with several AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Volunteers of Catholic Charities West Michigan at a local restaurant when another customer approached the group.

She recognized some of the Volunteers, Grandmas Beth, Cindy, Kelley, and Phyllis, from their service at a local elementary school and shared that her children had enjoyed having them in their classrooms. This sweet mom thanked the Volunteers for the kindness, encouragement, and support they provide to students every day.

Moments like this are a powerful reminder that the care our Volunteers give reaches far beyond the classroom walls. Thank you to our Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Volunteers for the difference you make in our community each and every day!

This week is Volunteer Appreciation Week, and we are proud to recognize CCWM AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent John McGee Jr. for his incredible service at Reeths-Puffer Middle School!💙

Since 2023, John has brought wisdom, encouragement, and plenty of joy into the lives of students and staff alike. He loves to share all his adventures as a Foster Grandparent to the middle school students- and the impact of his presence is felt all throughout the school.

We thank Mr. McGee for going above and beyond in his volunteer service and for being an amazing role model in our community!

🍎💛 Laughter, learning, and lots of love fill the classroom when Grandma Doris is with her lively Kindergarteners.

During every visit, it is easy to see the joy she brings to these little learners. Grandma Doris not only shares her snacks, but also shares something even more meaningful — her heart. From comforting smiles to encouraging words, she creates a space where children feel cared for, supported, and ready to grow.

For several years, Grandma Doris and her Supervisor Teacher have worked side by side, building a wonderful partnership that helps their classroom thrive. Together, they make an incredible team, creating an environment full of kindness, consistency, and connection. 🍎📚✨

The impact of a Foster Grandparent goes far beyond the school day. It is found in the trust of a child, the strength of a classroom team, and the love that helps young hearts blossom.

Thank you, Grandma Doris, for the joy, generosity, and warmth you bring to your Kindergarten classroom each and every day. 🌷

💙 Sometimes the most powerful moments in a classroom are the quiet ones.

During a recent visit to a lively 4th grade classroom, we were touched to witness a beautiful pause in the middle of the day. While a guest teacher led the class, Grandma Linda sat beside a young student, the two of them focused together on a word puzzle. 🧩✏️

In that small, peaceful moment, something bigger was happening than simply finding the right words. Grandma Linda was offering encouragement, patience, and the steady reassurance that every child deserves — the gift of knowing someone is there just for them.

It is in moments like these that confidence grows, learning deepens, and hearts are strengthened. A kind word, a patient smile, and a caring presence can make all the difference.

Thank you, Grandma Linda, for the love and support you bring into the classroom each day. Your impact reaches far beyond the puzzle on the desk. 💛

During our recent visit, we had the joy of capturing a beautiful moment as Grandma Sandra, one of our dedicated AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents, patiently helped a sweet little girl practice using scissors while cutting out a butterfly to celebrate Spring. 🦋💛

It’s in these quiet, caring moments that confidence grows. Through her patience, kindness, and steady support, Grandma Sandra is helping little learners build important skills while feeling seen, encouraged, and loved.

Thank you, Grandma Sandra, for the difference you make each day in the lives of our early childhood students. Your presence helps young hearts and minds take flight. 🌼💙
