Second Chance Dog Rescue We do not receive financial aid from the government and rely directly on donations and grants to stay running.

Second Chance is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue that serves in Murray, Kentucky, and surrounding counties. 501c3 means that we are tax-deductible, so any donations you give will be taken off your taxes. We do not have a permanent facility yet and are foster-based. This means that while the number of animals we can take in is limited to the number of fosters we can get, every animal is treated as a part of the family until their forever homes can be found. This makes the transition from shelter life to forever home much easier for both pets and humans. It allows us to get to know our animals on a personal level and be able to truly evaluate what they need in a home, which allows us to better match up a pet to a family's needs. This means, while we will take animals back if the fit just isn't right, we rarely have to because we find the perfect fit the first time. We are limited on space, but are happy to help network any animal in need of a home! We focus mainly on dogs, but will also take in cats or any animal in need. We are not set up to take in farm animals but will help where we can so please do not hesitate to contact us if there is an animal in need. We may not be able to take it to our rescue, but we will do our absolute best to find a home for it. Feel free to message us with any questions about the rescue, our animals, or how you could help us grow and save more animals. Adoptable animals can be found on our website at https://tdarnell2.wixsite.com/secondchancemurray/adopt

I let her run this morning until she was ready to go back in. It’s her last off the leash until 11/13. It absolutely killed my soul to leave her. She will be hospitalized until Thursday. It’s game on now. She is hard to handle due to the characteristics of her breed. However , she is a good dog. It’s been remarkable how much she has learned since her rescue last Wednesday night. She is a smart girl , she learns fast. I have never had one easier to housetrained than her. The hardest days are yet to come , from day 10 after treatment starts to day 21 is the most dangerous. So wish us luck. Send our newest girl warm vibes and think of her often.

❤️ DONATIONS NEEDED FOR IDA RED’S VETERINARY CARE ❤️

Our sweet Ida Red needs your help! 🐾 She is preparing to begin heartworm treatment this Tuesday (10/13) , and we are asking for donations to help cover her veterinary expenses. She was also spayed and microchipped. They said she is doing well. Tomorrow, she will get her second injection. So still praying for a good outcome on round two. If all goes well, she can come home to start recovery on Thursday.

Every dollar makes a difference in giving Ida Red the care she needs and deserves. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing her story. Every bit of support, every share, and every kind word means so much! ❤️

🐾 Donations are greatly appreciated! ❤️ Please help Ida Red get through this journey to a healthier, happier life.

Creed is about 1 year old. He is a super sweet loving boy. He’s everybody’s friend. He is black lab and pittie blended to perfection. Creed’s most perfect work would include an area to run or hike, a soft place to lay his head, and his best person at his side. He weighs about 65 pounds , is a great little leash walker , he is fully vetted and would be blessed to have his best friend at his side. He would be a good rider for travel and a good snuggler for those quieter days. If you are interested in this handsome lad. Just give us a holler back at us if you’d be interested in meeting this most perfect boy.

Today’s PUPDATE: 10/10/2026
DONATIONS are still needed. Her rescue vetting is well beyond what this rescue can handle. Your donations are all tax deductible. The Ned of the year is coming soon. This is a help toward your taxes.
Ida is adjusting. She’s doing very well. Her curiosity gets the best of her. She is so curious about almost everything she sees. So I let her explore whatever within reason. She seems to learn quickly. In the first day I felt my biggest challenge was with the way she would snap treats out of your hand. I mean she snaps quick and very hard. She caught my hand more time than I want to admit. I referenced was to control that or ever effective discipline. Everything I learned and read was not effective. The. Suddenly it seems like she has caught on. She is taking treats much softer , but with encouragement with every treat offered. Her latest curiosity adventure, what this a kitty ? The kitty smacked her really good, even injuring her ear. She knows THAT kitty will get you, oh but what about this one? Curiosity continues.
She slept better last night , really well That was her best night yet.
One would think with her being out in the elements the way she has been for such a long time but rain wouldn’t bother her. So when I got home today, it was raining and I went to let them out and she ran outside and then I’m running right back in. I said I thought you’d be the one that stayed out the longest. She decided that that was not for her. So we had to wait until the rain slacked off to go back out and she really wasn’t a real big fan of it even with a few sprinkles going on. I’m hoping she’s grateful for her life so far.
We are still looking for a Foster Home or Foster to adopt Home for her. Her heartworm treatment starts on Tuesday and we will endure that for 30 days.. I am more comfortable with her here so I can watch her and control her during her treatment. It’s very very important. But soon after that should be ready for her new home. She will get out of heartworm treatment on November 12 .

PUPDATE : 10/8 @ 11:45 am
We are currently at the vet getting everything done. She has done very well this morning. She is somewhat confused, but excited. She wants to be everybody’s friend.

Y’all please please share , she needs a chance.

Foster needed!
We are in an emergency situation. We need a foster family for a new bigger dog, about 45 to 50 lbs . She is going to the vet tomorrow to be spayed, check up and shots. She is in need of a fenced in yard. She would do good with another outside dog that is willing to play and share adventures with her. She would need to be fed separately. We took her out of less that favorable conditions. She’s a Catahoula bloodhound mix. She is a good girl that needs a gentle hand and soft voice to be taught simple manners. She does know what sit and down mean. She is attentive , but has been very forgotten about. If you’d like to provide this sweet girl with a temporary home, please let us know. We need a socialized environment. She’s about four or five years old. She does very well in the car , she just loves to ride . She is a sweet girl that has been starved for attention. She knows trust and interaction. She will do well with an outside situation as she was never allowed to come in the house. Anyone willing to introduce her to a little walk through their house every now and then and slowly get her acclimated to what inside a house really is. We will post picture tomorrow as it was dark when we picked her up .
