At JICL, the adults we support in residential and day programs participate in meaningful holiday activities of their choice. Painting pumpkins is not only fun but allows the people who participate a chance to work on fine motor and coordination and express their creativity in a way the brings them happiness and a sense of accomplishment.

In October 2026, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an annual recognition of the positive impact of people with disabilities in the American workforce.

In 1988, Congress designated the commemoration as NDEAM, to acknowledge the importance of increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions and other nonobvious disabilities.
