We don’t talk enough about the postpartum part of motherhood.

The exhaustion.
The identity shift.
The strength it takes to keep going.

While it is a challenging time it is also a beautiful time of self-discovery and deepening relationships.
It is a beautiful transformation powered by love that comes from three words “I am mom.”

In Episode 1 of the Global Peace Women Podcast, Jeanne Bessell and Aisha Yakubu share a raw and honest conversation about motherhood, faith, healing, family support, and discovery through one of life’s biggest transitions.

Today, we are reminded of something simple yet deeply important:
Families matter.

Families are meant to be places of safety, growth, and second chances. When parents are supported, children feel seen, valued, and secure. And they carry that strength into the world.

If we want a more compassionate and peaceful future, it begins at home.

This International Day of Families, let’s support parents, strengthen families, and recognize that raising children shapes all of us.

"Peace Begins in the Home."

This Mother’s Day and International Day of Families, let’s honor the quiet heroes who build peace every day: mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings, and caregivers.

Families are where love is first learned, dreams are first nurtured, and hope begins to grow. Every hug, every lesson, every act of patience plants seeds for a more peaceful world.

"The family is the wellspring of hope, love, and inspiration, where dreams are nurtured into reality."

Happy Mother’s Day and Happy International Day of Families from Global Peace Women.

Investing in women’s leadership is investing in lasting peace.

Global Peace Foundation advances women-led peacebuilding by strengthening community leadership and addressing underlying issues that affect safety and opportunity. Initiatives like ‘Uniting to End Violence Against Women in Football,’ spearheaded by the Global Peace Foundation Tanzania, shift norms and expand opportunities for women in sport and community life. Graduate student Erica Kiduko supported this effort through her research and engagement, advancing dignity, safety, and leadership for young women athletes.

Peace begins at home.
— By Jeanne Bessell

We often think peace is created in big meetings and global decisions. But the truth is—it starts in our everyday moments.

When we choose patience over anger,
when we listen instead of react,
when we say “I’m sorry” and mean it—
that is peace.

Children learn not from what we say, but from what we do. The home becomes their first model for handling conflict, shaping how they build relationships in the world beyond.

Peace is not about avoiding conflict.
It’s about how we respond—with empathy, respect, and care.

So today, take a moment to reflect:
What kind of peace am I creating at home?

Because real change begins there.

This Week’s Peace Dreamer is Aisha from Nigeria 🇳🇬
Aisha is one of our featured Peace Dreamers for the Campaign, raising funds to empower women and family Peace Dreamers around the world.
In Kaduna, Aisha, a project leader with Global Peace Women, turned a small passion project into a growing movement empowering young women through the Girls’ Tech Bootcamp. What began with 40 participants (ages 15–25) receiving hands-on training in graphic design, video editing, UI/UX design, HTML, and coding with mentorship support from IT Central Ltd has expanded into Bootcamp 3.0, reaching 75 young women and partnering with Shamrock Innovation Hub.
Beyond technical training, Aisha’s work is grounded in the belief that peace begins at home. Through mentorship, soft skills development, and people-building life skills ; such as leadership, confidence, collaboration, and purpose ; she equips young women to create lasting peace in their families, communities, and future workplaces.
With twelve outstanding projects earning internships, the program is opening real career pathways and raising a new generation of confident innovators, leaders, and changemakers.
A graduate reflected on her transformation:
“This program didn’t just teach me coding. It taught me leadership. I now believe I can create solutions that will help mothers and children in my community.”
Aisha’s work proves that when women are equipped with skills, leadership opportunities, and strong values, they strengthen families, build peaceful communities, and drive sustainable development.
Support Peace Dreamers like Aisha. Fuel women-led solutions that build leadership, innovation, life skills, and economic empowerment.
