Mountlake Terrace Library Event Rooms Engage our community to educate, inform, inspire.

The Mountlake Terrace Arts Advisory Commission goals along with the Friends of the Arts:

Collaborate with artists, business, government, education, residents and guests. Create opportunities for artists including visual, performing and literary arts. Encourage public and private partnerships to provide funding. Position cultural arts as community and economic building blocks. Promote understanding of diverse cultures, ages and abilities.

The Arts Advisory Commission has chosen works by photographer Shannon Tipple-Leen for the October art exhibit at the Mountlake Terrace Library. Shannon’s photography focuses on details in nature that are often overlooked, using simple white backgrounds to highlight color, shape, texture, and form. Her work often features plants in the later stages of their life cycle, finding beauty in changing edges, seed pods, and other unique details. More recently, she has begun creating and photographing groupings of plants in the studio, adding a new dimension to her work.

The 46th Annual Arts of the Terrace Juried Art Show is officially open!

Here’s a look inside this year’s exhibition, featuring more than 430 works by 190 artists across five categories.

The show runs through Saturday, September 26 at the Mountlake Terrace Library Event Rooms, with all artwork available for purchase.

September Library Exhibit!

The Arts Advisory Commission has chosen works by Lauren Quist for the September art exhibit at the Mountlake Terrace Library. Lauren is an award-winning mixed-media artist based in Mountlake Terrace, WA. Her unique perspective, shaped by extensive childhood travel and living abroad, is central to her work. While she formally studied art at the University of Washington, her distinct practice as a painter and embroiderer is entirely self-taught. Lauren is known for her innovative technique, which combines paint and embroidery floss on canvas—a method she first developed for her senior studio project. Featured in numerous Pacific Northwest art exhibitions, her work is defined by dynamic textures and meticulously stitched elements, which invite light to dance across the canvas, granting her subjects a unique depth.

The Arts Advisory Commission has chosen works by Yulia Balenko for the August art exhibit at the Mountlake Terrace Library. Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Yulia later lived in Dublin, Ireland, before settling in Mill Creek. Her work has evolved from still life to landscapes inspired by hiking and the natural beauty of Washington State. She especially enjoys painting en plein air and is an active member of Puget Sound Group Northwest Artists and Plein Air Washington Artists.

The library is located at 23300 58th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace.
