Emanuel Project The Emanuel Project is a visual arts program for at risk youth. Slogan: Art Inventions for At-Risk Youth

Conceived in 2009 as an extension of the Arts for Kids program, founded by Louisa Craft-Jornayvaz, the Emanuel Project began in a Georgia classroom as a way to focus incarcerated youth on academic activities. After observing improved academic success in the classroom as well as noticeable improvement in the behavior of the youth in the classroom, Louisa Craft-Jornayvaz partnered with Dr. James R.

Minnick, currently the projects Executive Director, in whose classroom the project began. The project was officially named the Emanuel Project in January 2012, and now serves incarcerated youth in 41 facilities in 9 states with research-based curriculum, art therapy and incentive programs. Approximately 25 “Murals of Hope” have been completed in 8 states with Emanuel Martinez, the project’s namesake, working directly with students of the facilities as part of the incentive program.

The Emanuel Project is presently going through some changes. Art bridge will no longer be the main focus of the Emanuel Project. We are back to our initial mission and will be expanding to other art projects.

Follow our partner page ArtsBridge for updates on the annual youth art contest! S.D. is the 2018 winner for her piece, “We Will Meet in the Middle and Our Future Will Be Bright," which is a representation for the life S.D. sees for herself and her young son. S.D. is on track to graduate this spring!

Let's hear it for S.D. and all other hardworking youth who deserve the opportunity to find their path forward through art, as is ArtsBridge's mission as well as the focus of the Emanuel Project.

Here are pictures and concept thoughts of the mural "Education = Positive Transformation" that Emanuel Painted with the youth at Crescent Leadership Academy in New Orleans:

"To the staff and students at the Crescent Leadership Academy
The concept below is a sketch of what I envision for the cafeteria mural at the Crescent Leadership Academy in New Orleans. This was on based on how I interpret the mission and vision of this academy.From left to right will be a crescent moon against a dark background that lightens has it moves to the right. This crescent symbol forms a “C” followed by a “L” and an “A” that is an abreviation for “ Crescent Leadership Academy. The “L” moves forward into an arrow to emphasize Leadership. The “A” uplift’s the dominant graduate’s arm who is holding his diploma and who repesents a leader. Following behind Him are more graduates in a proud formation. The arrow points to a beautiful butterfly, a symbol of transformation used in most cultures. The colorful butterfly will leave behind rays of color to represent it’s influence on the world. As a symbol of growth and health, a plant emerges into flowering bud."

Muscogee YDC students contribute to a book for children at an orphanage in Haiti: During an airbrush lesson, students airbrushed animals onto material. Those fabric pieces were sewn together to make a wordless book. This book is being sent to an orphanage in Haiti for students to enjoy.
