Alder Springs Deaf and Blind Community A uniquely accessible community for the Deaf, DeafBlind, Blind & Hard of Hearing in Western NC (It is not a HUD project; no government funding is involved.)

Alder Springs is the nation's first nonprofit 501(c)(3) community designed especially for the deaf and blind. It is developed by and is owned by the North Carolina School for the Deaf at Morganton Foundation and funded entirely by private donations, grants, and loans. Occupancy revenues from Alder Springs will be used for the community's operating costs, maintenance, repayment of loans, and expans

ion. All remaining funds will be used to enrich the educational experiences of students at the NC School for the Deaf.

Building common spaces for more intimate gatherings
Sensory technologies in Apartments: CAT6 cabling, electronic visitor identification, audible/visible visitor and phone alerts, audible/visible smoke alarms, water sensors to detect overflows
